Just an FYI, it seems the 42" Kirkland tool box will be $399 11/25-12/2.

While it's never going to replace a tool truck box, I think it's better built than what's available in home improvement stores. Maybe a good deal if you're, I dunno, replacing a Craftsman box you bought in the '90's. Like me.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but the top drawer on the bottom has double rails.

For the average occasional weekend warrior, this box is just fine and it's a good value. My friend has been a mechanic for 25 years, and he's still using the first Craftsman box that he ever bought - the point being, use whatever works for you.

I'd love to have a professional toolbox myself, but I can't see spending $4-5K for one, when I can find much better uses for that money (such as for the tools themselves).

The one I saw at my local store looked well built. The drawers felt solid and had very little side to side movement, I would have liked to see full width on all the lowers though. The frame on the lower was well thought out from the extra support on the side walls to the rails boxed into the lower channels for the casters. Good deal for someone looking to put a variety of tools in one location with limited space. Better than most boxes I have seen at other big box stores.

I really have not been impressed with them, to be quite honest. The metal seems quite thin and flimsy overall. I am sure they would be fine as a garage organizer for the occasional user, but for anyone that uses their box with any amount of consistency or has a significant amount of weight inside, I don't foresee them lasting long.

For that price, it's a pretty good deal I think for the home mechanic. I looked at them pretty close, probably would have bought for that. Compared to what's on the market for the price, it's pretty competitive. Instead I ended up with a used older Matco. It's nicer, but I need to paint it... and that's a lot of work.

i use it professionally, its an alright box. the drawer layout limits it the most but other than that it is not flimsy! i catch my self having 5 or 6 fully loaded drawers open at once and it doesnt even threaten to tip. the drawers slide easily fully loaded. its a good starter box i picked it up cheaper than i could get anything else the same size and has lived through 3 moves no problem.

Web site says out of stock. I checked one out a few months ago and it seemed nice for a homeowner. I like the fact that it has more deeper drawers. I've got 200 pounds of Kent-Moore bushing and bearing drivers I'd like to put in a sturdy bottom drawer.

I've looked at them. They're nicer than most of the non-pro boxes, but I think Masterforce and the newer Huskys are better. More solid and better drawer layout.

But to get a Masterforce in that size you'd be spending around $800, so for the price they're really good if you can live with the layout.

That stainless bottom roller they have every once in awhile - now that's a nice box for the money.

Are you talking about the Trinity stainless bottoms with the butcher block top? My dad bought a pair of those and they seem pretty nice. He's not a pro or anything but they were pretty cheap, like HF cheap, and they hold most of his stuff.

Yup, that's the one. It's an awfully nice looking box.

I might have to rejoin Costco, although it might never be available here, and if it is, the price would likely be doubled. It looks fine, especially for home use.

Costco recently opened over here.

Few weeks ago I bought two of those boxes for a shop I work for. Both intended for storage. One for specialty tools and the other for accessories and consumables for the lathes. Absolute bargain v.s other storage solutions.

I have very similar "Beta" toolbox and I paid almost 4 times the price for it. Honestly I can't really see the quality difference. The weight is similar, close to 200kg for the set. Drawer rails are similar size, double rails on big drawers. Yes the black coating isn't very attractive but it seems practical to me. After all this is a toolbox.

I would have zero problem working out of one of these, and I think it would hold up fine in professional setting for several years loaded with tools. For a DIY purposes, probably a lifetime.

My local store did last time I was there a month or so ago. Thought it was locked. Then figured out the drawer latches were tiny and only at the very edges of the drawer pulls. That would piss me off to use. Passed.

I know it is hard to find out anything about Costco boxes BUT who makes these boxes for them and to put their Kirkland logo on it Huskey maybe they have a huskey in Bolton Ontario Canada if it is still around ....bu t thery are not going to give me the cylinder key for the boxes ...

Just find lock replacements. I am sure you can find them online, maybe start with mcmaster

Or return the Boxes since it is Costco...

I would start doing intelligent searches on Ebay. I had R series keys, and it was easy to order. Maybe by putting in your 014 and husky, or some other maker, you might get lucky. Or just take the cylinders to a real locksmith, pay the $20, and be done.

if the key blanks are available a locksmith can re create them, otherwise i would just get new locks. probably cam locks with wafers . they are about $10 each and you can get them keyed alike so only need 1 key for both

Yep. I took a little strongbox to a real locksmith a few months ago, and they patiently searched their stock til they found something that fit. The blanks were actually for Nissan cars, IIRC, but they work beautifully in an off-label use. Locksmiths are where it's at.
