I bet none of you guess the price I paid for all this. I will give you a hint. You'll say you **** when you find out the price. In the index is cle forge and I can't tell the other brand. Both USA. Every single bit in the container is USA. Even that one inch but. Lots of cle forge. Stuff like 5/8 and 41/64 for bolt clearance holes. I don't know the id on the tap handle. I do know every single one of the taps is USA. The yellow case is a Hanson set of taps and dies. All the loose taps are American as well. Bluepoint is one or two of them. Sk, penems and proto ratchets. I'll take inventory of loose drills and all the taps and post it

I had asked the old guy how much for the taps. He said "kid do you know what those are for" I said "yes they cut threads in a hole for a bolt" "you gonna put them to use" "yes" "take that whole pile 5 bucks. Just use them don't just display them" and then we talked a bit he is retired machinist

As a rule I also buy used tap & Dies but I avoid any rust issues if at all possible. With that being said find and old tooth brush (not ones with metal bristles) and see if you can wipe away any old dirt, be sure and fill a small cup with some WD-40 and dip the brush each time you use it. Then buy a plastic fishing box with tons of compartments and carefully put a few into each divider so they will not bang together.

Let me reiterate the above, Keep cutting tools separated. Cutting tools are hard and will chip each other banging around in a box or what ever. TAke care of them and they'll last a long time. Leave them piled as they are and they'll be gone before you need them.

I'm not that old that I can't remember youthful exuberance on a great deal, and want to encourage young people starting out. You know what to do next time. We all make mistakes.

Good job on some great finds. Even the guy that sold them to you wants to encourage youth starting out. Most likely if you had been older the price would have been a lot higher.

Got the drill bits in the index sharpened up. Few were sharp most dull as hell. Their shanks are rough could I put em In my lathe to file the shanks smooth?

I would not recommend that you put a drill bit into the lathe. You just want to remove the high points with a file, keeping the shank untouched as much as possible.

friends dad sold me these sockets. Said he was cleaning out and getting rid of loose tools. Let me have them $5. I know the Matco 3/4 socket wrench and the husky impact aren't vintage but they came with the others. 13/16 Blackhawk USA hw 1526s for spark plugs only

I am not bent out of shape, and I am not a troll. I stand by my previous comments.

I come to the vintage tool section of the forum to see and learn about vintage tools. If I wanted to read posts with someone trolling for "you ****" comments by repeatedly bragging about how cheaply he bought some tools, I would go read the "2016 Garage Sale Thread".

that first plomb 1 7/16 the less long one is much thicker than the other one. Can't find any proof online of it does anyone know if it was made specific for something? That 1 3/4 plomb is a mystery as well. So is the stevens Walden worchester USA whitaker special s104b. the made in usa 70 drop forged is also a mystery. That Bonney wrench I don't understand two units listed for one size. All of that stuff is most of what i've acquired in the past year.

The "Whitaker Special" was made by Walden Worcester (no "h" in the spelling or pronunciation.)
The mystery "70" wrench could possibly be.... Herbrand? (Lugnutz probably knows.)
The "Forged Select Steel" double-end box was made by Indestro.

Heed the advice of those telling you to keep cutting edges separated from each other: letting them bang against each other will dull their edges.
The suggestion of a "Plano" type fishing tackle box is excellent.

Looks like you got a few nice old ratchets in that batch.

Yes. Sometimes it's just a bit of fun, and we learn things along the way too.

I used to be a teenager with old tools, now I'm a lot older with very old tools!

Those weren't in the first lot. Those are just acquired over time for buck or two mostly. Still can't find info on the big silver one. Part number don't seem to exist

I started collecting tools back in high school. Just craftsman stuff, and mostly new stuff. But still, I have a pretty good set up now for a casual hobbyist. Everything I've got in the past decade has come from yard sales. Over time, you'll find you pretty much have everything you need - basically what I'm saying is you are doing yourself a favor by starting young. Its cool to see you doing this.
