I've got three of these lights, one over each of my workbenches, and I think they're pretty nice. I had one fixture die on me. I figured it was just the pull chain switch, but BJ's exchanged it without question so I just swapped it out.

I hope they work out for you guys. The company paid a 22 Million dollar fine for deceptive business practices, the lights do not last as long as they say and do not put out the light they say... buy them cheap at the big box, and nobody ever uses the warranty.... that is the new business model.

did you check out the Country of Origin on those "lights of America" ?

The other concern is the Honeywell version sold at other locations appears to a clone of the LOA. With all these fixtures keep your receipts and documentation you may need it.

To be fair they are all deceptive, the 10+ years life that you see on the box of any LED light is referring to the LED itself, not the whole light. In case of a LED light bulb, the driving circuitry is almost always the first thing to go, not the LED itself.

And even the "service life" is probably not what you are thinking. The service life of a light bulb does not refer to how long the light bulb last, rather it is just a rough calculation of the time it takes for the light bulb to become dim enough to need a replacement. For an incandescent light the service life matches closely the actual life of the bulb, because the filament becomes thinner over time and causes it to become dimmer. When the filament is thin enough it will blow out easily.

But for LED the concept is at best deceiving. The actual life of the bulb has little relationship with the dimming of the output, but manufactures continue to use the figure because it sounds good.

Anyone who think LED light is reliable need only to take a look at any cars with a spoiler that has integrated brake light. 9 out of 10 of them there will be at least a group of LED that has failed (actually it is the driving circuitry).

And the CoC really has not much to do with it. I have a high end BMW that has LED brake lights that are made in Germany (these are around $250 each), and they last about on average 3 years or so. In fact they fail so often BMW now switched back to incandescent brake light for most of the models, when in the past they were standard feature.
