Sounds like a REALLY GOOD Deal. If I didn't already have a 2 stage compressor I'd buy it!!

You want to hear some more good news? As one of those rare oddities at Harbor Freight, that compressor is made in the United States.

It's built by Atlas Copco in Rock Hill, South Carolina. They usually have Baldor or A.O. Smith motors on them, and you couldn't even buy the motor for the $159 they're selling that for.

Yeah, I've looked at them in the local HF. The motor is made by A.O. Smith.

HAHA.. was just getting ready to start the thread myself on this compressor! Mine was SHIPPED yesterday! I thought the same as you charlie, I wanted/needed one, and the price was perfect, and if I have to replace the motor... or pump (cast iron by the way) I'm still WAY AHEAD, and if I don't have to, then I'm SUPER WAY AHEAD!

Thanks for posting it so I didn't have to! also, for the first 30 days, if you need/have to return it... they will refund shipping/freight as well I called and asked twice.

I was ready to order, but now I'm waffling...

"John" at the HF 800 number told me that:
- shipping would be $86.99
- the trucking company may charge a lift gate charge, between $10 and $100
- not in stock, expected 20 days from today
- not possible to ship to a store

Dang, I don't know what's worrying you about that... the thing weighs about 300 lbs, $86 truck freight is CHEAP... Most trucking companies charge $50 liftgate fee for residential delivery, so you're into a $900 two stage compressor for $296, delivered right to your house... I don't see how it gets too much better than that.

I asked about any additional delivery/lift gate fees and was told there where none. so seriously are still into it sub $250 delivered to the house. (says the compressor shipping weight is 243# if I remember right)

I wonder if they would let you pick it up? I am less than a one hour drive from their HUGE warehouse in SC....

Anyone know? IF so I am going to buy around 5 of them!!!

Well I talked to all the droids....Corporate, the Dillon store (Right next to the warehouse)... They all said it was not possible to do....

Maybe it is drop shipped from the factory (But whose factory would it be? The workings of it may be US made, but that does not mean that it isn't stocked there)

If it is in the warehouse, then that is a load of **** why someone can't go pick it up....

I am telling my brother about this. He needs a compressor to paint his old Volvo and was going to buy a smaller Porter Cable from the local hardware store. This might be a better option for him.

So these aren't available at the HF store? Internet only?

Yes, they are not available at the stores... The stores will not show them on their computers. Only way is thru internet.... HF will not ship them to the stores (Which is why it is possible they are drop-shipped from another location (factory))

They are also on 20 day backorder... Who knows how long this deal will last...

I may buy 3 or so if I have to pay shipping. Sell 2 for $400 bucks and get a free compressor! I know I could move those on my local CL.

I was helping the guy next door to our company find a new compressor. Walked over and showed him this thread and he had one on order 5 minutes later. They still have the 2-week out timeline for orders.

Unless your local store has a re-conditioned one in stock and is willing to match the internet price, you will have to pay shipping and wait on this deal.

Not just wait, but the deal can be cancelled/go away as these are factory reconditioned, meaning limited quanity, and no knowledge IF more will come back to the factory to be reconditioned and resold. I have had similar orders with HF and other retailers cancelled after the fact... saying the item that was on back-order is now no longer going to be available. I am glad I have the shipping confirmation on mine already. WHEEW!! I saw it first thing yesterday morning and it was shipped same day. yippee!

paranoid- but from all posts and calculations I've seen, a true 5hp motor takes 22-23 amps, which this does. In store they have the same tank but with a single stage 3 hp motor.. it is DEFINITELY not the same motor, I just went there on my lunch to look. ;)

Charlie, did yours show back-ordered or shipped yet? just curious if they went out of stock this morning or yesterday. when I called, prior to ordering mine, they said that company-wide they had a total of 20, that's it.

I guess if you need to make a buck, you need to make a buck. I was hoping my brother could pick one up to actually use, but those are the breaks.

Just checked my email, the only thing I have is the confirmation of the order. I ordered it this morning at 5:45 AM, so its probably too soon for shipping confirmation. I don't usually have luck, so I won't be surprised if my order gets canceled due to unavailability.

Who says he can't?

-BWP

No one. I just read here that there are 20 of these in the whole HF system. I can't get a hold of him right now...it will be tonight before I can. Based on the number sold in this thread alone, it looks like they wont last.

Not a big deal, something else will turn up.

They told me 20, and that was about 9 a.m. EST YESTERDAY when I ordered mine.

Here is a close runner up still a deal!

Yep, real 5HP, 22amps, A.O.Smith motor. I've had one for awhile now. Fine compressor. Not a Quincy or IR, but, alot of compressor for the money.

I seriously think that I have only a 20% chance of getting these compressors.

They may be gone already.

But I hope Bulls brother orders and gets one.

I don't want to seem like a ***. This is just business...

In retrospect, I shouldn't even have said anything. It's a free country!

So this sentence from their terms and conditions only applies to Alaska, Hawaii etc.?
"Items over 70 lbs. or oversize, which are too large or too heavy to be shipped Parcel Post, will be shipped freight collect by truck. You will pay the trucking company directly for the freight charges at the time of delivery." http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/aboutus.taf?f=terms
Not in addition to the $86.99 shipping fee right? (If you are not in Alaska, Hawaii etc.)
