I learned to drive a stick in this 3/4 (or one ton?) International:

Camper was off of it though...

That's my dad next to it. I was probably the cameraman. I think this is the only pic of the truck (salvaged from the few pics my dad had after he died...)

Cool pics Outlaw. My first pickup was 1965 cab on a scout frame. It had a 196 four banger with a 3 speed. Fun little truck. Then I bought a 1970 Travelall with a 392 and a 4 speed 4x4. I could go anywhere with that rig. My last was a 1975 pickup with a 345 in it.

My garage refrigerator was an old IH. It had cool emblems on it, but was obviously not the frost free model, and somebody wanted it more than I did. It was sold. Don't know if I have pictures.

Already posted this to the "Found a deal on craigslist? - List Here!" thread but thought maybe someone on this thread would be interested. Not mine and no affiliation. Frankly, if it wasn't so far away, I would have already bought it. Hope that I am not out of line posting this here.

Vintage rolling tool box - $40 (Wilson, Near Lakeshore drive)

http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/tls/5905811911.html

This little vintage rolling tool chest is painted a nice gold or power bronze color. It's in good shape, and would make a nice addition to any vintage garage or shop. 32" high 18" wide. Asking $40.00.

I also learn to drive on a IH just like that it was a 68 1200 that had been
used as a camper but it was 2 wheel drive with a 5 speed trans.

Since I found GJ I have needed an entire new HUGE storage facility for the new/old tools and stuff I'm bringing home from the Sales. My New garage build is about filled up already!

I was headed that way LONG before GJ! but I'm still rationalizing what goes into my "new" (yo me) MATCO, and hopefully things get better (for a while)

two weeks off at Xmas; if it's not too cold in the garage...

It really kinda started a couple years ago helping my dad build his model A coupe. Getting into the metal working and such. Having access to a big hot rod shop with a HUGE amount of tools and metal working tools. It made me want my own place to build my model A pick up . So I started working on my garage. I really need to make a thread about it soon. My house had a enclosed double garage turned into a huge living area. Had......

Picked up a couple more boxes this week. Couldn't resist the mid and top Powerkraft boxes, full of Craftsman tools, all USA but unfortunately not old enough for me........all G-coded sockets and -V^- wrenches
attachment.php

I have that same POWR KRAFT stack, but no mid box! Lemme know if you feel like getting rid of it!

I've been holding out. I found this little wood tool box on EBay two months ago and it is just one of several old boxes I've picked up recently. This is actually a Greycraft Tools toy tool box. It was made by the Grey Iron Casting Company, Mount Joy, Pennsylvania sometime in the 50s. I'm using it to hold my wallet, keys and whatever is in my pocket at the end of the day.
Regards,
John

Only had this for a short time (wife bought it for me at an estate sale) unsure of the age, no maker's mark on this tool box (owners name is on the brass) guessing the roaring twenties! Cheers

A number of these boxes have surfaced in these pages. I have one so does drives and a couple of other guys. So far the best guess is they were originally for tractors. But it's just conjecture so far, but with the number that had surfaced, we don't believe they were "shop projects"...

That one looks to be in pretty great shape! Mine is currently the home of my PEXTO tools small enough to fit in it.

Found one just like this OEM on a 3/4 or 0ne ton pre ww2 military jeep many years ago. Painted to match the jeep.

LUG: i have quite a few of those types of boxes. were they all made for WWII?

i'll get them all lined up one of these days and maybe you can tell me more.

thanks

GAMBO: thanks for posting up your old tool box. looks great with the brass badge and nice that you have the tray cause i've seen a few MIA. i've heard some of ETSY and PINTREST sellers calling their identical boxes PREACHER BOXES so not sure if that means anything. i still think they came off a tractor and just not sure if from the factory or if a tin knocker made them for the farmers.

thanks for posting it and i heard your bride found it so KUDOS for having found a great wife. cheers.

ALL: since we haven't talked about these cool old boxes in a while anybody else know who made them or have one to post? here's mine and i've picked up a couple others that are almost similar since.

Hello - well in the military -Uncle Sam made sure his name was stamped on everything -even your G.I. underwear had a stamp - I looked over this coffin toolbox and no U.S. marking or manufacture name. puzzled - I'm located in the Midwest and can ask some older farmers and vintage tractor restorers what they think. Also have a repro older (1910) sears catalogs that details farm tools and equipment will see what that brings up. Steve

Lug was talking about Mr Soups box I think...

If you post more photos, from closer, especially of the underside of the flip top lids, the removable tray, and the supports inside the box for the removable tray, I would probably be able to tell you who made it. Or at least who did not. If you're interested in that kind of thing. It's almost assuredly a U.S. Army WWII box, I can tell you that already.

Hey Lug, that sure looks like a Hamilton made box to me, based solely on the width and number of hinge knuckles. Let's see what Mr.Soup has to say. :dunno:

These are the two that I have. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=604710&stc=1&d=1481319486

I like the way gravity closes the hasp and that holds the lid shut, when you pick it up by the handle. (The hasp on the green box is slightly wider).

The biggest difference between them is the way the lid was constructed. The silver colored one has a top which was stamped out of one piece, whereas the green one is made up of three pieces, spot welded together. (The center section is folded up and over and the two trapezoidal ends were added).

Another difference is in the tray size. The silver box apparently had wider tray, but not when I found it.

There are too many identical boxes, for it to be shop made.

You are probably right if there are a whole lot of them. I was just noticing the difference in a few of them in the way the lids are constructed. One looks like it was made using several pieces, and the other pictures don't show this. I don't know, but I'm interested in finding one now. They will probably be like Craftsman vintage tools on ebay.... worth gold, when people start selling them and the word gets out.

I picked this old Kennedy Kit Tool Box up a few weeks ago, and I really like the look of the tool box. I've been trying to find out when it was manufactured but I haven't been able to find one that is identical to this tool box, and I have probably looked at a thousand photos. What stands out is it has a latch on each side of the tool box. All the pictures I've been able to find have the latches in the front. The tool box had a small "machinist practical guide" copyright 1935 in the back of one of the drawers so I was wondering if it's from the 1930's. I email Kennedy to see if they could help me but they have not replied to my email. So if you have any info or know where I can find some info about please comment and let me know.

I found this old Kennedy box today. The owner claims it is military and it is painted olive drab. It's open inside, no dividers, no trays nor any indication that it ever had them. The dimensions are 25 w x 16 d x 16 t

The guy wants $75.00 for it, I haven't jumped yet because I really don't need it.

Regards,
John
