Bonis fur machine found at the dump

Our town recycling center has a scrap metal bin and I always check it when I am dropping off cardboard or plastic. Today I took a peek and this was sitting nicely on top, whoever dropped it off placed it there instead of tossing it in. I had no idea what it was but it looked too cool to leave behind.
I found out it is a leather sewing machine and not junk, glad I saved it.

Sounds like the person who got rid of it, knew it would be valuable to someone, but not to them. they placed it in with care, instead of tossing it in.

That thing is cool. I'd HAVE to use some rubbing compound on it and brass polish and see if i could bring it back to its original look.

There's been a thread on Landis and other antique leather sewing machines running for a while on the Practical Machinist Forum Antique section. Might be someone over there interested in it if you don't plan to keep it.

Good idea on the rubbing compound, it does have some latex paint splatters on the top but will try a little goo gone first.

It is amazing at times what you see in the trash.
I have done well at the scrap bin in the past. Plumb Collins Kelley axes, even a few boy scout hatchets. Last year got a bunch of snap on wrenches in like new condition. Crazy what get tossed.
And the electronics recycling bin is another good place to look for old amps and receivers and turntables.
