Bring up an old thread, what is the difference between 96ACF and 196ACF? The between look to be identical between the two pairs. The 196ACF is listed as "Talon Grip" so is the only difference the serrations on the end of the pliers?

I was also looking at the 97ACF and 597ACF which is 1" longer than the pliers above. Are the Talon Grip pliers (196ACF) better?

196ACF has the cutter, 96ACF does not. Both are Talon Grip.

I like Xcelite pliers, the needlenose are a little smaller than most but very precise for tight quarters. Got them at a local electronics store. Its the only pair of Xcelite I have, i had $20 in credit to use up at the place and really ended up liking them.

Thos are all talon grips. They are all awesome, just order the size and features you need. The longer 97 has a normal variant and one witha pin-pulling groove (597). The 196 has a wire cutter if you need that, other people like not having a cutter as its a its the simple tool which takes the most abuse.

These are my go to. They all work great. Two SO 96CF, SO 97CCP, and Channellock 3037 Snipe pliers. Not that I don't like my Snap On pliers but for as cheap as the CL pair were they're great pliers. Plus they're nice and slim.

Does SO even make a 6"ish TalonGrip long nose anymore? Looks like the 95CF has been discontinued...

The 97 sequence disappeared for a while and now is back with an 'a' variant. If you are in the market maybe give them a ring.

The launch for the 95 was 2013 so only 3 yrs old according to this flyer...

I wonder if they are doing a rev.a or comletely killed it.

right now nothing is really competitive with German NWS (also branded as those expensive german Irwin series) but who is in the lead in pliers seems to change every year, just like cell phones!

This ^^^^^^^ I'm a pliers junkie and of the 20 or so needle nose that I own, these are by far my favorite.

My current favorite needle nose and grooves for hoses and cutter there cross pattern grabs very tightly
I've got to second this. Mine are 196ANCF and come in handy so much I've started carrying them with me all day at work. SO Talon Grip does exactly that yet machined precise enough to pick up a human hair. Oh yeah, if you need to cut something, grip hose or something or even turn a fastener in a pinch these can do it.36a2f772ae1b3500f9892207670a1511.jpg

Knipex 08 22 145

Needle nose combination pliers, very cool but two points

1> designwise, they are a new clone of Talon grip/ snap on 196acf concept

2> they are 145 long, which is 2 inches shorter than a 38 series knipex or snap on needle nose.

TLDR, they are not really a full size plier, but rather are meant to keep people from abusing their 200mm knipex 26 and 38 series needle nose

Most of Mac's pliers are rebadged Knipex.

Not really, more like the Snap On 196ANCF

Yes, but the original post was about 5-6" pliers, so relevant

I might have to try those Knipex, they look interesting. Especially if the SO 95CF's are NLA...

Yes - The 'N' is the one with gripping jaw cut outs. couple pics of that avove in this thread. sorry for the typo...

If you get those knipex, pls report back !! they've only been out <1 yr or so. Not too many reviews or writeups yet on them. You can get them in chrome finish as well -- which is awesome-- nice looking, corrosion resistant and hard enough no to chip or peel.

For needle nose sometimes I think it would be nicer to have the lighter finishe. Whether doing benchwork with wiring under some artifical light, or poking around under the hood into some darker areas with a headlamp, its nice to have the pliers not be 'camoflauge' metal finish colours (grey/gunmetal/etc).

Will do. I would prefer the chrome with plain grip style, but that doesn't look like an option. BTW, I sent an email to S-O cust. svc. inquiring about the 95CF availablity, we'll see what they have to say...

I heard back from Snap On. Looks like the 95's are currently a "non catalog item". And yes, they now have the "A" designation, 95ACF...

"Thank you for contacting Snap-on Customer Care. The updated version of these cutters are not in the current catalog but they are available to order online.

The dimensions of these needle nose cutters are the following: jaw length is 9/16" and the total length is 5"."

https://store.snapon.com/SearchResults.aspx?q=95acf&IsPartsSearch=0&departmentName=Tool%20Catalog

Interesting that they've gone to 5" length on these. So they have 9" 97's, 8" 96's, and 5" 95's. Quite a gap between 5" and 8". Also, if that 9/16" jaw length is correct, these are strange pliers indeed. More like mini electronic pliers IMO.
