I know money is a taboo subject, but I'd be very curious how much (minus the land) something like this cost. Understand if you prefer not to say.

ALOT i went way over budget on the house and shop. Your going to spend $20-$40 per sq FT. on the shop to do something similar depending on your finishes and $125-$150+ on the house depending on your finishes. Now remember i was the general contractor so add another 30% on top of all that. This doesnt include the land or the driveway.

HemiRamOn22s - Just curious what made you go with the metal on the walls in your shop opposed to other options. I'm looking to sheet the interior side of my shop and was going to go with OSB and paint white. I went with metal ceiling but just curious to what your deciding factor was for the walls.

I think it looks the best. My current shop (60'x104') is done this way and the one before that was the same. We've also finished 2 or 3 other buildings this way. Now its not as easy to hang things on the wall etc. but its not like this is a full on mechanics shop. My first priority was to make it look good. It was probably 2x the cost of OSB. But it goes up much faster so you save some on the labor. Plus you dont have to paint.

Rain has delayed the driveway paving. Going to try for tomorrow morning if its not too wet. Working on staining the staircase and handrail, Trim work in the basement, Tile in the basement bath, Finish the basement painting, appliances, carpet, hanging light fixtures and fans, etc. all in the next 2-3 weeks.

Few pictures from the last few days. I'm happy to say im 98% sure we are finally paving my driveway tomorrow after a few weather delays and a hold up on the traffic control permit thanks to the DOT safety department.

Worked on the deck on Saturday. Its 10'x16'. 2"x10" Treater Girder on the House and a double 2x10 girder notched into a 4"x4" post on the outside. 2"x10" Joists supported on Joist hangers. Everything sits on 18"x18"x8" Deep footers. It will be finished off with Gray Trex Decking and White Vinyl Railing. Yes the deck is hung off the house and no I didnt leave a gap for two reasons. The gap between the Decking and Siding will be sealed weather tight and the deck also has a 1/4" slope per foot to match the slope of the screened in porch. Hope to get the Joist Hangers and decking completed this weekend and wrap up the railing/steps next weekend.

Materials moved inside out of the weather

Staining the Staircase. Matched the stain as close as possible to my tile.

Great Room finally has some lights. I'm not happy with the color. These lights are 3,500k and the rest of the house is 4,000k. Ill have to keep looking for a BR30 bulb in the right color but these will do for now until after I get my CO.

Cabinets are back in the house. This is an older picture. All of the hardware went on yesterday.

IMG_3485_zpspa76ozeo.jpg

Garage Trim. 3/4"x4" Azak covers the salt treated sil plate and metal flashing with a piece of 1 by on top with a beveled edge. I later put a piece of baseboard on top to complete the finished look in the attached garage.

IMG_3427_zpsosi98p3j.jpg

A few ducks on the pond one morning. 4 of them are domestic ducks that I've inherited from a friend. But they bring in the local ducks and blue heron every morning!

Everything is looking great! The deck seems a little small compared to the overall scale of the property, any reason you didn't go larger?

Amazon has a good selection of bulbs.

Thanks! Thats just for my gas grill and a small table and chairs. The screened in porch is 20'x16'. Eventually the back yard will be covered with hardscaping. I also have the 40'x10' covered porch on the pole barn. I have a feeling most of my time will be spent on the screened in porch. Its setup for a 50" TV with Episode speakers in the ceiling to listen to music or the ball game. Everything is connected via Sonos.

Paving Finally! I stopped by at 8am this morning and no one was on site. By 2 PM they had paved the 50'x80' parking pad and paved the 11' wide lane all the way out to the road which is ~1000'. They are laying down the black top in a single layer 2.75" thick and it rolls out to 2.5". I think they are being a little generous. Comes out to about 250 tons of hotmix.

I did close down one lane for safety, which is what some of the delay came from (the permit). A friend of mine sent me this picture a little while ago. And ive had a few other messages from friends giving me a hard time for closing down a lane of traffic. HA!

IMG_3532_zpsglwxtdxy.jpg

Here are the rest... I'll get some finished pictures tonight or tomorrow. Calling for 1-2" of snow tonight of course.

You could land an airplane on that thing.

You'll be ordering blacktop sealer by the tanker load in a few years!

Ah gotcha, makes sense. Interested to see the hardscaping when it gets done.

It might be a few years. I want to fine tune what I have and enjoy it some. Theatre room and custom bar in the basement as well as shop cabinets, lifts, tools are at the top of the priority list after my wallet does some recovering! Some of the final details are coming together in the house. I'm excited to show the final pictures in a few short weeks.

I like your priorities

I'm envious of just the black top alone, I'll have to wait a couple of years probably to get mine :) It really is a nice looking place, waiting to see the final pictures!

The final push is on. Im going for my CO on the house and shop next wednesday afternoon or thursday. Lights are going up. Trim is finally done. Finishing up some details in the basement, back deck, & garage stairs. The interior stairs are done. Cabinets are done. Carpet Thurs/Friday. Appliances come next week and the alarm and cameras are getting finished up. Gas is hooked up next Tuesday and i already have cable. Time to fire up this fireplace.

Shop Bathroom will be done this week and i can finally get the inside of the shop cleaned up. Then ill start hangin my hose reels and electric reels and get the compressor ordered. A busy next few weeks.

How has your geothermal been keeping up in the cold weather? You probably already posted but are you heating the whole shop?

The geothermal doesnt miss a beat and the house isnt even weather tight yet. I left it at 58 last night and when i got there the painter had it at 67. It will warm up the first floor 10 degrees in a matter of minutes. Its no joke. You have to remember i did the best of everything... insulation, window, doors. etc. It all adds up to make the house very efficient and weather tight.

The shop isnt heated yet because i didnt have it approved. I will probably put something in there this winter after i get my CO. Just a heat pump nothing special with AC for the summer. Everything is still open from above. Not sure how im going to hadle the second floor when the time comes. I need to meet with my HVAC guy on this.

I went the Mini-Split route for the office space and bathroom in my shop. Did a 3 interior heads on a single 2 ton outside unit. I've been very happy with it lately. Had some low temps recently and its been very comfortable in the shop but I also did the 2" closed cell spray foam. Still haven't decided what I want to do with the "Garage" area. Might just stick a wood stove or pellet stove out there. That way I will be able to warm up out there if I need to pull a piece of equipment or car in to work on during a cold day.

Everything is coming along nicely. Wish I could do asphalt out at my place but I would be looking at a heft bill. Close to 2,500 ft of driveway.

Also looks like the lumber foryour deck came from around me. Madison Wood Products.

I would call your insurance rep to make sure the pole barn will still be covered if you put a wood stove in there. Alot of times they wont cover it. Quite a few threads about that on here.

Yea it was a hefty bill for 1,000+ feet of driveway.

Driveway looks nice. We are required to have a concrete driveway. At 3,285 sqft of driveway I wish we could do asphalt. FML when it comes to clearing snow.

My insurance won't cover my shop if I have a wood burning stove/fireplace in it.

Thank you! Concrete is quite a bit more money! But it will stand up better to the elements and traffic.
