Let's see what you got. Dirty or clean, big or small.

Am guessing these gas station style cans are popular? I found this small barrel and decided to make a gas station style can since I couldn't find one to buy locally that was reasonable. I split some fuel hose and it snapped right onto the bottom. The fuel hose keeps it from being to noisy. The sticker is from ePay and the striping was some leftover stripe tape.

No pics. Have a few justrite cans I picked up cheap.

I looked and looked for oil or grease barrels. Talked to the guy at oil change place. Seems I've missed the heyday of oil barrels.

Good idea of putting hose on the base. I've got a pair of new looking barrels. Hope to find a paint scheme on this thread and label them myself.

Great thread. I need a can damnit! And I've been thinking about this lately too. I need one of those gas station ones. Anyone have one for sale let me know!

Making your own is a great idea. New cans are $$$. Any idea where to get smal barrels like that?

Nothing fancy, mine started out as a Mennen barrel, concentrated after shave or something like that. I got three free from a barrel reseller. They do duty as a temporary set up table too.

The other is an enclosure that is kind of neat that I saw (the Red Barn on the TCH in Nova Scotia).

I have a simple can, a plastic drum with the top cut out of it. I keep thinking to myself that I need a metal can with a lid since I weld in the garage. Somehow, I keep putting it off and forgetting about it.

Cool Stuff! Keep 'em coming!

Check Craigslist. Surplus stores too. I got three different sizes barrels from a local surplus store for about $20.00, including the one in my top post. I think they came from a print shop. Also, I got a nice 55 gal. drum for my burn barrel for $15.00 on Craigslist

I like those handles. Do they help stabilize the top?

Snap on "socket' trash can...
Cool Beans!

Well if it catches on fire, at least it is in a metal can!

Here's mine.
I'm going to steal your split hose on the bottom idea.
Looking good...as for the hose, the exchange of ideas is why we are here!

I just re-read your post....yes time to get e METAL can!! If your trash can catches fire, depending what is in it, the flames can reach up to three times the height of the can. For most of us that is high enough to do some real damage or catch something else on fire.

I see Mansfield Craigslist has a place in Lima, with a 55 gal metal drum/can in great shape for $15.00 Here is the link
not sure if you want that big....or how close you are

if your trash container doesn't have either a self extinguishing top or a closed lid to limit oxygen, it doesn't matter if it's plastic or metal...

Ya know, I never thought I'd tell another man he has a nice can. But you guys need to be commended on keeping your cans in tip top shape.

You sir, have far too many brand spanking new tools on that there cart hiding behind your can. You should be ashamed of yourself! :lol_hitti

If any of you guys in the central NJ area are interested in the 16 gallon kegs let me know. I go through those pretty often, I get those filled with Kendall and Pennzoil products. My guys have been tossing them but I could ask them to put aside if there is interest.

I might take you up on that. You're only about 35 minutes from me and a 16 gallon can like that has is a lot more asthetically pleasing than the gray plastic rubbermaid can I have now...

I was just notified I need to order a keg of chassis grease on Monday. So I should have one real soon, this one might be a Pennzoil branded keg like the one someone has already posted.

I guess I would be out of line if I asked if you were going to steam clean/pressure wash these free drums, too? :lol_hitti

Yes, you would be, however the grease kegs have a liner that pulls out leaving for the most part a fairly clean interior. That said, I'll save GL5 keg just for you.

That's cool. They didn't do it that way a million years ago when I managed gas stations...

Tommy

Oh how I remember , I worked at a Standard Oil Station in the late 60's ,early 70's
That's when we pumped your gas ,checked the oil , tires and cleaned all the windows .
I kind if liked the window cleaning , lots of women wore short skirts and some even gave you a peek at more than just the knee's

Her name was Lisa. :lol_hitti She drove a brown MGB. The three wiper blades and fishnet stockings still stick in my head. She was one of the best looking women I had ever met. She finally asked if I was ever going to ask her out. We dated a few times, but there were no "sparks".

I'm quite aware how bad it can be if it catches on fire. I've just procrastinated on getting a good metal can too long. I've honestly meant to get one when I've ventured into Menard's or HD but since they weren't on my shopping list, I've bypassed them until today. After seeing this thread, I put it on my list of things to get while I was Christmas shopping for the wife.

New 20 gallon Bethren can on the left and old 30 gallon plastic barrel trash can on the right.

I've got a couple Behrens galvanized cans. Keep down by the pond for catfish food. Keep the lids bungee corded on. Raccoons leave tracks on top of it but don't get in.

I would love one or two of those. I am not that far from you and am actually coming through NJ next weekend for New Year's on my way to PA. Let me know if you could hold some for me and we can exchange info via PM. Thank you.

Picked this one up at Walmart.
Like the hands free cover but it is a bit small.

I was looking for a 25 gallon grease drum but they aren't free anymore.
Their collectibles! Really!

Here is one, $95+ on e-bay...I actually have the matching clock...just can't seem to pull the trigger.
