Is there a cord that will turn a shop vac on and off when I start my miter saw?

Looking for something that I'm pretty sure they make but not having luck finding it. I would like to find something that I can plug my miter saw(or any tool with dust collection) and shop vac into that will automatically turn my shop vac on when I pull the trigger to my saw. Do they make such a thing?

I will say this though. I have one I bought a decade ago for my router table and I love it, but for a tool like a miter saw that's a lot of really short on-off cycling of the switch and the vac, and neither are really made for that. I've seen a lot of complaints of failures of an auto switch when used like that. They are really designed to be used with tools like a table saw, band saw, thickness planer, router table, etc than they are for something like a miter saw that will only run for a few seconds at a time.

[Edit: Now that I think a bit more about it, it would also be awkward to use on a miter saw because you would need to pull the trigger on the saw and hold it a few seconds for the switch to turn the vac on and it get up to speed before making your cut. That would just plain drive me crazy. ]

I would suggest that a remote switch for the vac may be more practical and reliable in the long run.

You can also use one of the power saving surge protectors, I use one for my tv and stuff in my bedroom. It has a main plug the you would plug in the miter saw to and when it detects voltage being drawn it turns the others on, and the same when you turn it off it will detect it and shut them off.

That's a great idea! I knew those existed and never would've considered using them for tools and dust collection.

I got the Fastcap RCV for my 6hp shopvac and it works fine, no problems. It's not automatic but it sure as hell beats walking over to the shop vac to turn it on and off. As far as I'm concerned its about on par with sliced bread. It really makes using the shopvac much more convenient.
