Couple questions here on these. Anyone use them and have an overall review on them? They are made for 1/4" impact drivers and run in pretty large sizes up to 1-1/2". That's pretty big for a 1/4" shank, no? Also, these ejection springs. Do they work or just a gimmick? https://www.milwaukeetool.com/accessories/drilling/49-56-9830

I remember buying a Milwaukee thin wall hole saw on clearance from HD last Spring. I'm not sure if it's a Shockwave one of not. I've used it once and worked fine for what I did.

I'll try to check it out this afternoon and double check what I have. If it's a Shockwave piece, I'll drill some holes and try to get a better idea of how well it does/doesn't work.

I checked this evening and the hole saw I have is a Shockwave 1 1/8" bit. I drilled a few holes and it did pop the hole disk except for one of them. That one I drilled up against a piece of 2x4 instead of in air.

I used it once when I needed a hole that size and bought it clearance from HD for cheap. Whether I use it again or not, I considered it has already paid for itself.

The reoccurring problem I have had with them is that the spring pops out. It probably is because I'm drilling into thicker material.

I've used the similar models from DeWalt and Bosch. For drilling accurate holes in sheet metal, they are great. Yes, the spring will pop out the slug, most of the time.

I've used them mainly on mild steel. This is what I use to cut the pilot hole for larger hole dies (Greenlee, etc.), to use with my dimpling dies.

They have a finer tooth than a regular hole saw, so they leave a cleaner cut in sheet metal.

I used one ONCE, to convert my old gas light post over to electric.. drilled a hole out of the base to incorporate a 110 outlet for anything like landscaping / decorative lights.. it worked very well, but again, I just used it one time..
