Got this ratchet today at P S. As new condition but it has had a socket on it. Price $30.

Another item of interest: There has been a SO cabinet and chest, looks to be 26 inches wide. Couldn't see model number. It has the late model top chest with the cut out in the lid(not real sure why that feature was put in). It has been there at least 3 years, price $950, 20% off sticker put on about a year ago. Asked guy what they wanted for the box they had had on hand for at least 3 years. After some discussion he said boss would probably let it go for $650. I don't have room for it, so no interest here. Box has been used and has stickers on it.

That shop has accumulated several boxes since I was last in there. One other I remember was a green SO large tool cart for $600, 3 drawers plus deep top compartment.

I didn't have much luck at pawn shops til I found a new place last summer. Nothing as cool as your snappy, but I got a Cornwell TR3 1/4 ratchet with a missing tooth for $5 (Cornwell guy rebuilt gratis) and a Wright 3426 3/8 rat also for $5.

You bought a $110.00 ratchet for $30.00 scary to think what the original owner received for it when they pawned or sold it.

I've never understood the reasoning behind pawning things anyway. I can only assume poor judgement or desperation. I heard once that pawn shops tried to give 10 cents on the dollar, but I don't know.

Davethorik: You did well on the Cornwell and the Wright, probably better than I did. Wrights are underrated tools.

I'd say 10 cents on the dollar is pretty accurate. When I was younger I tried to pawn a guitar, nice 1965 Fender Coronado II, because I needed an expensive calculus book. They wanted to give me WAY under what it was worth, even on the low end. Even though I had ever intention of getting it back, I didn't end up pawning it. I suppose people might pawn with the same intention of getting their stuff back, but I really believe that most things ( especially tools ) in pawn shops are stolen.
