Anything you guys buy and you regret it once you use it. Just got a industro super 1/4 breaker bar and was let down by the thickness of the handle. I'm going to end up keeping it since it was a ebay deal and don't feel like shipping it back. The handle is very close to the thickness of a 1/4 extension.

Dayton 10" Contractor table saw.... Bought it 4 years on black Friday. Thought I would get into woodworking but took a promotion at work and it's still sitting in the box in my garage.....

I'm not disappointed unless there is an inexcusable failure. My buyers remorse has dropped in proportion to how much less I go to harbor fright.

But have you used it? Perhaps it will be everything expected in the performance catagory

my first marriage.

Seriously - not really remorse, just wonder as to why I bought things when I did, only to need them in the future. Example - needed one nut driver, so I bought a metric & imperial set

My normal buyers remorse involves tools not bought when I came close to pulling the trigger and then finding I needed the tool or whatever shortly after.

Ain't that the truth. I went there to buy a couple of casters to mount under a platform I'm building for a Honda 5 hp engine. And I had a coupon for a free tape measure. I almost didn't even redeem it. But I can always throw a tape measure into the car door compartment.

Those little flashlights ain't half bad once you get the crappy batteries out of them and replace with some rechargeables.

Not really buyers remorse but buyers anxiety, like when I bought a lathe from an online auction and had to trust the seller that yes it did work.

If something is not as described or damaged, it goes back. If it just turns out to be something I don't use, I resell it. Tired of moving and loading heavy **** around.

From high school until my mid 30s, I always bought the cheapest tools that could get the job done. After that I upgraded to cheap American made tools - Craftsman USA. Now I have cheapo tools I bought at Target and Auto Zone that just won't die despite plenty of misuse. Those tools just sit there in my tool box looking ugly. LOL

Friend of mine once said “only a pauper buys twice”. I regret each time I buy something based on price and wish I'd just bought right the first time. Sidchrome sockets (went through a few on one set of head bolts), cheap metal cutoff saw that pretty much useless, cheap screwdrivers.

Four packs of red colored hot dogs.. Cheap price, but after attempting to eat one, and wanting to barf it out, the rest were thrown.

Even with a free price, a 6' section of skate lockers were tossed out after storing them for two years.. Come to think of it; many of the free "bargains" that I have encountered fall into this category.

There are times that needs or usefulness of stuff changes; and there are times I simply goof up.

HP laptop. Bought it on black Friday. Didn't pay close attention to it because it was $300 off ($500 instead of original $800) and people are grabbing them like crazy. The keyboard is silver with thin small gray lettering. I am having a real hard time reading the keyboard. Also found out it did not come with a DVD burner. It also only come with 2 USB ports compare to 4 on my previous ASUS laptop. Very disappointed.

I am going to assume it's a #2850, correct?
Does it have a knurled round handle? Like the one at the top in this image:
Indestro 2850 Proto 4766 Herbrand 23006 1.4 breaker bars.jpg

Or is it the later flat-handled model?
If you want to get rid of it send me a PM and let me know what you want for it (including shipping) and maybe we can work something out.

See those two Herbrand breakers in that photo? That model has the fattest handle of any 1/4" drive breaker I've ever seen. The knurling isn't quite as aggressive as on the Indestro (or the Proto below it) but it's enough that you can keep a grip on it.
You can get those Herbrand 1/4 breakers cheap cheap. Two of them for ten bucks, including shipping:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2pc-HERBRAN...549931?hash=item54142a00eb:g:a70AAOSw1-RUZhZs

If you want an Indestro, you'd probably be happier with the "Select" model (#6050) with the flat handle. Still available for ten bucks - including shipping - brand new:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...eaker.TRS1&_nkw=indestro+1/4+breaker&_sacat=0
(* reliable seller - I've bought 3 or 4 of those from that outfit. *)

The Proto model, of course, will run you a bit more. I believe it was about $28.00 down at Tacoma Screw. (There couldn't possibly be a more appropriate name for that company.)

As for "buyers remorse":
Any of the "snack food" chips or crackers from Big Lots. Every box or bag of stuff I've bought from them went out on the back lawn for the crows.
Any potato chip that tries to be "Ruffles". Nothing even comes close. Accept no substitutes.

YMMV.

Number one source of remorse, anything I have to carry that turns out not to work. Money lost I can forgive (but usually don't), lugging something heavy and it doesn't work, smoke out the ears.

HF the remorse is all prepurchase, I look the items over and don't buy them if they look like junk.

Craftsman USA screwdrivers, they just aren't the same as the ones sold in the 20th-century, quality-wise

Cure for things you regret not buying, make them an offer where you are happy whether they accept it or not.

Dinner at PF Chang's. Barely made it to the Bass Pro Shops down the road before having a gastric eruption. Wife liked it though and wants to go back. :(

Mostly vehicle related

-Took a chance on an ebay 86 Toyota 4Runner. Tried several times to contact the seller and no luck, so for 800 I felt it couldnt be that bad based on the pics. I only wanted a 4 wheeling truck, nothing streetable. The thing literally was held together with duct tape and gum, had so many issues and so forth. I sold it for 650 complete 6 months later and sold off some parts on it and came out on top with 900.

-94 F250 HD. I REALLY liked it since it had almost every option and the dual gas tanks worked. The bad part was the rust was a bit worse than I wanted to deal with and the engine had a blown head gasket I overlooked and dismissed. The price was right, I lost cash on it tho. But man it was a nice looking truck otherwise

:lol_hitti

As far as remorse, many times buying inferior tools. But the one I will take to my grave was my anodizing line I set up. Hell it wasn't even a one time purchase, it was multiplies that finally totaled up to about 3G before I mothballed it. I ended up giving away everything this past year with the exception of my power supply and water purification system to a young cop who wanted to get into the hobby. Ya should have seen his eyes lite up when I completely filled his truck with everything. "Here, it's yours. GTFOH". :pimpflash

I have overpaid on a few things from auction. One I got kind of caught up in and bid higher than I should and another it wasn't what I had thought it was. Not a ton of money lost or anything but more mad at myself for losing my head on the first and not doing enough research on the second. Lessons learned and all but I still get irked when I think about it.

no, not really

i dont buy stuff for the sake of buying stuff. working tools are bought for a reason, garage tools are bought for the convenience of not having to get into my "working" tools, or to make DIY/house projects easier to accomplish

tool purchases are thought through long before i purchase anything new.
used/vintage tools have to be cheap enough i can justify buying them. *usually because they are extras or things i dont use every day (or week/month/year)

over the past 40 years, i cant remember buying something and regretting it. i can count on one hand, (and have fingers left over) the tools ive sold, but i dont regret the purchase.

I live in Canada, and I wish I could buy more at harbor freight. Cheap tools that seem useful for the average shadetree mechanic.

ie, wish I could find 1/2" impact swivel sockets for the price that hf has them on for.
