I have a cousin Don Vito Corleone, and his other two brothers not close to me as cousins go Michael & Sonny Corleone (sonny is a hot head). Well they can fix you up with Carlo, Fredo & Barzini that in turn will give you the phone numbers of Johnny Clemenza & Luca Brasi; (although I got to tell you watch out for luca I hear he is tough on thoroughbred horses).

So where was I oh yes when you give them a call and a location they can arrange to break the legs of that snap on driver or bang his wife your call, they will gladly give you a cut rate deal just don't wait around them for very long I hear tell that when you cut a deal with them they sort of own you for life.

I'm sure there is someone on here with a good relationship with their dealer who would be willing to help the OP out. Ie, purchase from the truck and mail to him. I have done that for people on here as a favor when they didn't have access. If I still had a snap on dealer I'd do it for him.

What is wrong with the snap on website? Buy through their site, and now there is proof you bought it from them for any warranty issues that might arise.

I own one of there drivers and I'm willing to pay the snap on quality/ warranty premium just not full boat since in buying 5 at one shot. I also wanted a few stubies. And a large torque wrench. Paying on delivery no credit. Paying with cc and sales tax. I just won't pay full list and I totally understand they don't want to discount. I purchased a few tools already from my local guy at full boat. Totally understand one tool no deal. I met him at my body / auto shop in his territory and purchased off the truck. He won't stop outside the territory and I get it. Guy in my territory won't return calls??? This snap on tool family is not joe regular guy friendly and perhaps it's a pita but I make it easy. No rush for these tools. Offered cash or CC. And I'll meet him. Got full boat quote. No thanks.


I will survive with the Williams or the husky. If those break I can get 3 or 7 and break even.

Caterpillar is less than SO at 61.00 w/ Lifetime, case is more than Williams and both have lifetime when purchased at an authorized dealer.

I will either get the Williams, already have a few that I like or try a Husky for a while and decide then.

Have you looked at the red handle craftsman ratcheting screwdriver at Sears? I have it in my road tool set and really like it. Also what about Gearwrench with the interchangeable shanks?

I have both the craftsman and the gearwrench. Neither is the equal of snap on or williams.

The craftsman is fairly nice, and closer than the gearwrench. It's two major detriments are that the ratcheting selector works backwards and not as well, and the bit storage in the handle cap is awful.

The gearwrench is just cheap. It is poorly proportioned and awkward, works backwads and the ratchet action is just plain crude. I bought it for the extensions to use in my snap-on, and they are okay, at least the two that are the right size. The size variance is too much between them all, some fit loose and some fit tight.

The advantage to both is that they are cheap. Personally, I'd pay the extra for at least the williams.

I have not seen the red craftsman but I'll take a look So far I own a Williams, a snap on regular and stubbie and a husky. All are pretty good. Snappy is my favorite only for the knurled shank which is helpful when greasy. Williams is totally solid and it's great. Husky is also very good but opposite the snap on direction wise so it messes me up sometimes

The Case/IH screwdriver is $27, you really can't go wrong. I have one and it's awesome. I've never needed the knurling.......none of my other screwdrivers are knurled, yet I survive.

Williams is the case. And the Williams is cheaper. I also happen to like the husky operationally. It's just setup opposite tbe snap on so you need to think about it.

Don't forget New Holland, if you have a dealer near you.

Part number is SN80005 - last handful of them I bought were $25.50/each at my local dealer. Not a huge savings over the Case/IH, but another source for a re-branded Williams (and it looks better than the Williams teal).

These things are buttery smooth. As the owner of a GearWrench ratcheting driver kit, there's just no comparison.

Old thread. Thanks for all the input. I ended up buying 6 each Williams ratcheting screw drivers. I love them.

Just to check I paid the snap on guy about 66 bucks and got a snappy. It's nice but not 2.5 times as nice. Has less bits and has knurlin on the shaft. I'll survive.

Now I have a Williams in each tool box home and work and in each car.

Love the Williams and its 99% the screwdriver of the snappy. Less knurling only. But has more bits.

My 2 Cents from a guys who does not earn money using tools.

Caterpillar rebrands the exact Snap-on ratchet screwdrivers under the Caterpillar brand name using part number 9U-7291. They are hard to source online, but you might be able to buy one from a local CAT dealer for less than Snap-on's price since they probably don't come with the Snap-on lifetime warranty. Your second option is to buy the Case IH re-brand of the Williams ratchet screwdriver. Part number SC80005. That's what I did when I bought mine. The only difference between the Case and Williams is that the Case IH handle is all black instead of Williams blue. There is also a Case IH label printed on the handle but it wears off really fast. I scraped the label printing off of my handles within a couple minutes using nothing but my fingernail. The Case IH version is often a little cheaper than the Williams version too.

My local dealer wont discount individual items but will always give me a few items free tools in a big order - that is why I will buy from him and not the website.

Also I travel a bit and will sometimes find the local SO dealer and email him a list of items i want and arrange to meet him. They have all be happy to take my money and give me a deal by either discounting or throwing in some extras. Can't do that on a website.

I'm in the same boat as the guy you quoted. Where I work we never need tools but after an external audit we needed to find some calibrated tools for an OEM we have. This required us to purchase tools quarterly and also send out for re-calibration during those intervals. I took it upon myself to contact our local Snap On dealer in our area and he would never return my calls after I literally left two messages telling him I knew exactly what we needed to routinely purchase if he would just stop by and set something up with us. After the second call I just stopped and sourced it somewhere else but that's another example of how narrowed minded some of these guys can be. Oh well, much better deals to be had elsewhere from dealers that ship into other territories.

Had a PM from a GJ member looking for a Snap on deal cash for better price. Did I know anyone on LI. Give him the same pitch my dealer gave me when I asked.
The biggest issue one has with doing this in NY is sales tax they want their due.
As much as everybody ******* about the price I would rather have a dealer who plays straight. Then somebody who does not offer the BOGO but sells the BOGO cheaper for cash.
Had a wheeler dealer as my first SO dealer and he played games just was not worth it. My dealer returns my phone calls or texts even on weekends as he does with the majority of his customers. If I order something it turns out never to be him who does the screw up it has always been in the SO system if we have a problem. There is no I can not afford to buy it or I am on hold from SO ****. If it not there in a week he checks.

So from talking to my dealer he has no desire to risk his franchise he is happy with how it plays out. He has been doing this for more than 30 years and he is happy where he is at and to risk it to save somebody a couple of dollars is pointless.
