I really like the ones I bought at O'reilly's for 17 cents each a few months ago. When you happen to be in one check their clearance shelves. They are really bad about not changing the prices in several stores I've been in. The will still ring up clearance. Hijack over.

After using them I would gladly pay $3 for one if I needed it.

I wouldn't be surprised if both the Wiha and Husky are made under the same roof

Not anymore, the new Wiha magnetizer appears to be made elsewhere.

Also, various German tool companies are seeking cheaper alternatives abroad as well. Everything we come across now is global. No company wants to be fully transparent, which is why US manufacturers for instance, can get away with Made in USA with global materials

Husky magnetizer COO = China

Wiha magnetizer COO = Germany

I don't think they're "getting away with it". Getting away with it would be not including the global materials aspect because technically, it's still made in the USA.

You have a valid point.
I meant these manufacturers are still able to sell to those that still think they are getting the same quality that once was back in the late 20th - Century.

Can I try?

On both wihatools.com and kctool.com the COO is listed as Germany. Personally, I trust this information over some assumptive Amazon reviews. I happened to buy one of these a couple months back, and it is true that it does not come marked with any COO information on the product or packaging.

Homedepot.com does not list a COO, but the product image clearly shows "Made in China".

My reason for pointing this out was not to say that one is better than the other, but simply to prevent the dissemination of false information based on rumor as a result of you stating "I wouldn't be surprised if both the Wiha and Husky are made under the same roof."

Thanks for the info, not everything online is true, appears at the end of the day we all have to go by our own discretion. However, upon checking KC Tool it does appear some German companies have their tools being Made in Taiwan now.

For most tools I do care a bit about where it is made. As long as the intended item becomes (de)magnetized, I care very little about where it is made. Now, I do prefer the Wiha color scheme to the solid black unit I have somewhere.

I got mine as a 2-pack on one of those daily deal sites. for now it is a 1-pack, until I find the other

Amazon lists it as "imported" - so you know what that means...

Imported doesn't necessarily mean it's an Asian import if that's what you're implying. Made in Germany would still be considered import.

However, I have the older better looking green Wiha ones. They say Made in Germany right on them & on the packaging.

Why they switched to that ugly mint green beats me but the new ones say they use C8 magnets now. Germans are proud to put German made on their products so maybe the new ones are made in Asia.

Don't know if the new versions actually work better but mine work pretty well. Depends on the tool steel though. Works really well on Wiha screwdrivers, go figure, not as well on some cheap screwdrivers.

The Sears Craftsman magnetizer is made in America and it's on sale around 2.50.

My screwdrivers have already become magnetized from sitting on magnetic screwdriver racks the past several years but this magnetizer/demagnetizer will stilll useful.
