I have an attached 1 car garage. Ocassionally I use a small plumbers torch inside it. The foyer between it and the rest of the house has a smoke alarm. I might use a space heater in it. I do somewhat often use a grindstonr.

I am upgrading my basement smoke alarm to a combination smoke and carbon monoxide detector. I'm going to put the spare smoke detector in the garage. Should I also get a Carbon monoxide detector.

I do have a fire extinguisher in the garage.

If you are parking a car in the garage, you'll probably get alarms every time the car is driven in or out - a rise of rate heat detector is generally a better choice. it senses a rapid change in the room temperature caused by a fire. A CO sensor will alarm whenever a car is driven in or out as well.

Now, if you don't ever put a car in the garage, the smoke detector and CO alarm are probably OK.
