Here is a couple of orphans.
They sure would like to meet a brother.
Is that Shaw a single child? Maybe a military contract item?
Earlier McKaig Hatch with depressed panel.
I guess the Blackhawk is an earlier one from the part number.

A couple of more orphans searching for companionship.
Top one is the only shorty Hindsdale I have stumbled across.
Really like the Walden in the middle.
The bottom one is a P&C 2114, also kind of early I presume.

Nice shorties, leg! The Blackhawk and P&C wrenches are from very prolific families--you'll have no problem finding family. The other four are older brands and are harder to find. I think I may only have one of each brand myself.

I drug home these P&C wrenches from the local swap meet today. They have a great feel to them.

Whew, those are some hefty hunks of steel! I'm kinda on a big wrench infatuation lately, so your P&Cs are especially appreciated.

BTW, feel free to repost your swap meet find on the 2016 Garage Sale thread over in the General Tools section. We're trying to get the post count up over the last record year (2014). The thread welcomes "used item" purchases from all sources, not just garage sales.

Thanks for posting here!

I bought these Dunlap wrenches new from Sears in the 60's. I don't think Craftsman offered a 'deep' offset box wrench at the time and money was tight anyway.
When I got home and opened them up I found that the 3/8x7/16 was something else! Curious.
Does that verify the manufacturer of these Dunlap wrenches?
Had it all these years and have since picked up the correct wrench to fill the set. Also picked up the mating 'shorties' recently.

Here are some of my 'cuties'. Williams short offset DBE ca. 1970's.
Like Chief Lone Watie's rock candy in Josie Wales, "these ain't for using, they're for looking at"
Been looking for a long time for the two oddballs, 9725A 7/16 x 9/16, and 9025 1/2 x 19/32. But heck, that's the fun part.

Just what I needed. You to post those Dunlaps! Now I have to go on a hunt for the rest of another set. I only have on Dunlap, but love the Craftsman stuff. Thanks for posting.

I know. I went out to the garage, and started putting family members together from a big pile of wrenches. I was surprised with what I actually had. Some small sets like Indestro, Westline, and one set (doe) that has no name. Putting families together is fun, but makes you want more for sure.

Ryan:what's the diamond-W wrench inbox the middle?

Ya its a Williams, heres the info from Alloy Artifacts they have the same one but mine is stamped different

6727 9/16x5/8 Short Box-End Wrench, Oval-Shank Style

Fig. 224 shows a Williams 6727 9/16x5/8 short box wrench with an oval shank, stamped "Williams Superrench" on the top line, with "Forged in U.S.A." and "Chrome-Alloy" on either side of the the W-Diamond logo. The reverse is stamped with the fractional sizes and model number, as shown in the inset.

The overall length is 6.1 inches, and the finish is chrome plating.

The "Chrome-Alloy" marking and chrome finish suggest production in 1940-1941.

I posted these early in the thread but thought a repost here was appropriate. This is my set of Williams shorts.

Nice Willies, toolmut!

My big wrench kick continues with the delivery of this Plomb monster:

Plomb 1155 angled, 1-5/16" x 1-1/4"

41c76d5ab84eac4c3c83e3841810b55b.jpg

df74252bab73dacc72bc47e35cd2948c.jpg3343d6416cb779d0a0279cf6be069310.jpg

The wrench has been abused along its sides, so not the best deal, but for $15, the price was acceptable.

I have to admit, I'm a bit jealous. However, I have acquired more than my fair share of DBE wrenches this past year - many of which have not been posted yet. I started sorting by brand in the hopes of figuring out what I'm missing.

It's a silly hobby, but I love it!

I don't actually collect DBE's, I just acquire them buying boxes of tools LOL. My collection is about to get smaller though!

I don't collect DBE's, but I buy cool stuff when I come across it. Billings 2-3/4" x 2-9/16".
31"long 15 pounds. I bought 4 all the same size. The guy says he has about 5 more. Yes I will try to buy them all.

Here's a Plomb that's almost as big as 02superduty's, but I can't bring myself to pull the trigger for the price plus the shipping.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Plomb-No-1069-X-Large-HD-Offset-Box-End-Wrench-2-3-16-x-2-3-8-GOOD-PL101616-/401244229644?hash=item5d6c05100c:g:RRkAAOSwpLNYA~VP

send them a message with your offer, thats how I get a lot of my stuff. picked up the 3/8 drive old artison style sk ratchet that was listed for $45 plus shipping for $25! You never know!

Good technique...I've done it before. It never hurts to ask!

Speaking of which...02superduty: I sent you a PM asking if you're willing to part with one of those Billings girders, er, wrenches. My collection could use a little more "OMG, YGBSM!" factor.

somebody here was looking for one of these. it's in pretty rough shape, and it's more than what I'd want to pay for it, but they don't show up every day of the week:

Indestro Select 0919 short SAE 15° offset double-end 12-point box wrench 1/4" x 5/16"
used. rough.
$8.99 incl. shipping "buy now"
http://www.ebay.com/itm/vintage-SEL...:g:lToAAOSwImRYbsBi&item=282316322337&vxp=mtr

catalog listing - 1948 catalog page 41 - lower right corner:
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=6093106#post6093106
shows as having been a discontinued item in the 1948 catalog.

What's the consensus on a maker for these wrenches? No markings on reverse, depressed panels with sizes forged in. I cannot find a "branded" example in this style. Vlchek may be the maker but out of scores of Vlchek DBEs, none match the style.

My guess would be Bridgeport. :headscrat
