LED Light Bar for Outside Lighting on Garage

This is going to probably have some blow-back. I am looking at using some 60" LED light bars mounted on the outside of the garage to light up my driveway and parking area.

I have a converter from 110v to 12v for this. The cost for the LED Bars is only 150 dollars that is for 4 of them. I just cannot seem to find a similar product that puts that much light out.

Any suggestions.

Light Bar Specs- Apply to more vehicles with power 300W, 10-30V operating voltage of led work light bar. 22000LMS, Combo beam with 60 degree Flood beam, 30 degree spot beam, 6000k color

At one time I would have said ... "no way".

But the more I learn about LEDs and how they work, once you get the volts down to say 12 ... I think it should work.

If you do it, please keep us informed.

One of my motorhome buddies has a 54" light bar in the ceiling of his engine bay so he can see stuff in there at night. I installed a light bar designed to go on a truck or SUV that will light up fields for miles (that is what he says) and he has it wired for either 12 or 24 volts.

If the operating range is 10 to 30 volts ... I wonder how the LEDs know what voltage they are getting. is 12 volts just as bright as 24 or 30?

On a 12v supply, that's 25 amps per light bar. You have a 100A 12VDC power supply?

There are plenty of 200-300W 120V LEDs on eBay.

They use a LED driver. Brightness is the same no matter the input voltage... amperage will vary greatly.

I have six of these placed high in the trees to light two long driveways. They are powered by a small 12 volt power supply and switched with a WeMo switch. They are sealed waterproof and have been in service for two years. Spec: DC 9-32V 6000K 1800LM 60 Degree LED. Two for $18. My goal was low voltage of ease of wiring , internet controlled switch so they can be operated from any location on the property with ease.

4 60" lightbars for $150? Are you sure? It's been a few months but last time I looked a single cheap chinease knockoff 60" lightbar would cost $150 by itself.

Recommend buying LED flood lights. A 100W LED floodlamp is usually cheaper than a 100W LED lightbar plus it's listed, has a more appropriate light pattern and mounting options, etc.

I like your thinking tho.

This is the only other option I have found that might work. However the Lumens output is not nearly close to the LED bar, and these are huge lights.

100 Watt LED Flood Light Fixture - 12,000 Lumens

Here is the 200w version, but the price point is insane. For one of these I could do two sides plus one extra light bar, but I do get 3000 more lms.

This looks like my thinking but its built for indoor shop lighting interesting concept.

Cost is 55 dollars with tax, they dont have the 60" anymore unless i want the curved ones they only carry the 52" straight.

You're probably comparing a high quality LED fixture to low quality lightbar. $55 for a 60" LED lightbar is very cheap. A rigid industries 50" lightbar would cost you around $1000. A $55 version has to be about the cheapest fixture china makes.

Make sure you are comparing apples to apples when it comes to LED fixture quality - there's a huge range in quality.

Both Ebay and Amazon have 100W LED flood light fixtures advertised as low as $35each if you want to compare cheap fixtures.

Rigid is an overpriced Chinese light bar. The are built overseas and assembled here in the US. The main difference, correct if wrong in LED's is the manufacturer for the LED AKA 5w Epistar and the driver. LED is the same compared to the main manufactures. The driver is the difference. Having used both Chinese, Rigid, and Baja Designs. I would choose Baja hands down however, the price point is just to great for the average consumer. Working with a company that has a warranty on their bars, were Rigid does not have the same warranty coverage, and have had numerous friends get denied. (they do make some pretty cool stuff though)

I feel the Chinese bar would be worth the price. (Not for buying non US items)

Dirtrunner, don't be too surprised if the LEDs in those low cost light bars dim pretty quickly. I've seen plenty of low cost LEDs that have the same lumen rating as the more expensive ones. They all look great... for a while.

Will take that into account. However if there is an hr rating on the LED's does that not hold true? Some of the non name brand bars do have the Phillips LED's or the Epistar's, not good?

i like the idea, ive got 24'' ones off amazon at $60 a piece and they are ridiculously bright, 2 have been on a truck for almost two years, the other one has been on a truck for over a year, with alot of mixed weather and highway km and theres no sign of moisture inside them or dimming. if my garage wasnt so close (40') to a semi major highway i would probably steal your idea. but i could see drivers end up complaining.
