still there. wonder if it's a decent brand.
Now, That's a set I would buy, If I found a good deal.
Something I don't have, and could probably use at some point.

assuming this isn't some high end sarcasm . . .

it isn't a steal. it is a cheap chinese set, available new for less:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FEQIIC2/?tag=atomicindus08-20

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019RPCNUS/?tag=atomicindus08-20

you can also get it at HF:

http://www.harborfreight.com/21-piece-sae-3-4-quarter-inch-industrial-quality-socket-set-40996.html

is it a good deal? i dont know. were it me, i would spend a bit more for a bit less:

GearWrench 80879 3/4-Inch Drive 12 Point Socket Set, 13-Piece
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A803EAA/?tag=atomicindus08-20

missing the breaker bar, and a larger extension, but never the less a much better quality set. if you are so inclined, you can get a gw branded extension and breaker from cripedistributing.com

there ya go, more than you likely wanted, but . . . . .

Your exactly right, it's awesome for drill presses, mills, belt grinders and wood and metal lathes.

I completely agree, the welders are a complete pain with high failure rates in blades and it takes too much time wasted trying to make them right.
Have it on my Olivier wood lathe.
It's awesome, cause I use the factory reeves drive also.

Not auguring, just saying, reviews seem decent (good) on the $60.00 set at Amazon.

oh, i agree that those sets are a great value, and are likely perfectly adequate for the jobs most of us put them to.

and while 50% more for a less complete kit sounds insane, it is not a completely unreasonable tradeoff considering that it comes from a reputable company.

i just like people to make informed decisions. i would rather know my options, and choose incorrectly, than not realized i had choices, even more expensive ones.

Sounds good, Like if I was still working in a garage, the gearwrench set would likely be better.

How many of us "need" to own a 3/4 inch drive set? (not talking about diesel mechanics, etc.)
I picked up a vintage New Britain 3/4 inch drive ratchet at a garage sale just because it was only $5.00 I have no sockets. Stupid, right???
If I stumble over a set of vintage high quality 3/4 inch drive sockets at a "you ****" price, I will probably succumb to the prevailing GJ logic and buy them. :headscrat

From a local CL ad-
http://newjersey.craigslist.org/tls/5958569379.html

Seems like one heck of a deal, but I don't know the first thing about it.

For Sale:

South Bend Heavy 13" Lathe, 24" between centers.
Hardened and ground ways still in fantastic shape.
Quick change gearbox for Imperial (US) threads.
Comes with DRO on both X and Z axis.
Collet holder and draw bar included. Collet s are not.
Dead center for head and tail stock included.
Tool holders for right and left tools included. Tools are not.
One phase 2HP 220V motor with forward and reverse drum switch.
Chuck backplate not included, but will sell for additional cost. For 8" Bison.

Lathe is in full working order, but is a little tired. It no longer is sufficient for commercial purposes, but would make a fantastic hobby machine. We recently replaced it with a much larger machine.

I will load onto a truck for free with a forklift. I can place it on a pallet if that helps at the other end.

That is one heck of a deal. Wish it were closer.

I wonder what the seller means by 'a little tired' ..

Ditto on the deal. Even if it required a complete tear down with all the accessories it would be a steal. As to the "little tired" I'm guessing worn out/slick drive belt.

Those are very nice lathes for the size, only problem with those when used in a commercial production setting is that unlike hobbyist and one off tool makers is that usually there only being used repeatedly to make the same item or has a specific task over and over again over the years because they are making an item for a product the company sells. In doing so you get high wear areas in very specific spots on the bed and cross slide making it tired and sloppy in those spots. Also small lathes in commercial settings having a tendency to get used for jobs that are bigger than it what it was intended for like using a small vise. When they say they're replacing it with a bigger lathe, that scares me.

Lets hope it just a slick belt for the future owner. I would certainly be checking it out, its looks beautiful but would be asking a lot of question to the previous operator and bringing dial indicator set up to check the wear.

If it checks out ok then it's a screaming deal.
