I recently posted a thread about Craftsman USA ratcheting wrench sets on clearance in Garland, Texas. Several GJ members wanted me to purchase and ship sets to them which I did. All quickly sent funds except Duct_Dummy. I've PMed several reminders. At first, he made excuses, then ignored my messages. A moderator even sent him a PM. Although he has frequented the site since, no response to the moderator either. I still have all PMs and tracking information.

So, I tried to help a GJer and got burned. Don't be his next target!

It's sad to hear that. I have only ever had good experiences on forums, but it just takes one person to ruin that trust, for everyone else.
Cmon duct_dummy man up !!

Hes pmd me before about buying stuff and he was so all over the place i could tell he held as much water as a collander. Making it seem like he had things and then sending me eBay auctions, like come on I know to do that.

If you have any of those auctions saved that would be one way to track him down...just saying.

I have his name and address from shipping the wrenches to him.

D'oh....of course.

It's really irritating that people like this exist, and worse that they take advantage of decent people like yourself. He's still on the forum regularly...like 25 minutes ago.

If it was my forum, he'd already be banned.

Just ban him!

We'd like to see that toolmutt get paid, which may never happen. It would be sad to think that the member in question might have a secondary account that he has or could be using as a "stand up" member of the forum.

It's reasons like this that the 100 post rule was put in place. It's not foolproof but it does help. Members considering selling or buying from a member can search their fellow members posts and see what they contain. Are they simple one or two word posts just a minutes apart ? Are they short replies with quotes from another member ? Are they in the Gallery section, one after another which clearly tells you they aren't reading the thread but just making posts ?

Always try to protect yourself and do some research on a member that you might be leery of dealing with. If the deal seems to good to be true, it probably is. If you don't feel good about a deal, then do not proceed with the transaction.

Use whitepages to look up[ his phone number.

Where is he? Some of us could knock on his door...

Bill

Ill second this. I know its a little over the top for a few bucks, but a note pinned to some deadbeats door might let them know that you cant hide behind your keyboard and treat people like they are just another username on the interweb and not a real person.

I got stiffed on an item I bought and the guy never shipped over on the HAMB. Same as you it started off with correspondence and then, nothing. I continued to correspond, however. In my last email I said I was sending a letter to each and every one of his business neighbors in his building exactly what has happened.

I had done enough homework, at that point, to share with him the names of the neighboring business/people. I told him I wouldn't defame him, I'd only include what was so. I had already drafted all the letters and would have them sent by a time I had set that afternoon. I sent him a pic of the envelopes. Even the envelopes had a note on the outside saying "**** ******** (his name) was paid $*** for an item and never sent it, can you believe that?" Within an hour, I had the money refunded to me and I destroyed the letters.

It was the only time that I figured it would've been worth getting stiffed. Dang, that would have sucked for him.

There are so many ways to jack with him.

I really would ask the postal general. Once it crosses state lines its a postal fraud of some sort.

If he is around Chicago let me know. I use to gather up collateral property from deadbeats.

The karma king will get him in the end.

Out of curiosity, why didn't you take payment before mailing the stuff? Why not use PayPal. Don't think I would ever buy or sell anything over the Internet with out PayPal protection. Especially if I'm dealing with people I don't know.

If anyone is looking for a perfect example of victim blaming today, look no further.

Look, I take the same precautions as you do, but that's not really what this is about.

You would think that a forum filled with mostly blue collar old men (and women?) would only have as many people pulling off these types of scams as many times Jesus rose from the grave.

I try to help out fellow members when I can and when you get into a situation where you're used to members pulling through and holding up their end of the deal I could see how a scammer could start getting some twitchy fingers.

EDIT: For those that want to contest that "I'm actually under 30 or Im only 1_ or 2_ years old". You won't prove yourself because you have to have the mind of an old man to post regularly on this forum. :p
