I find that most pawn shops want stupid money for the **** they've got. Usually it's beat to sh__ stuff some worker wants to get rid of because his habit is bigger than his desire to keep working evidently. I'm just not gonna pay half-retail for something used to death and dumped in the Desperate Trade Center Cash Pawn Shop. I was by one on the way back to the car after meeting a city official for lunch, he's the landscape architecture person for a south FL city. We had delicious Thai, and it put me in a good mood, so I stopped by the pawn shop. They didn't have much for tools, about the only thing that was of interest to me was a Porter Cable portable handheld bandsaw. They did have a nice Kennedy machinist's chest, but I wasn't gonna pay the asking prices. So I went to a thrift shop not far away. I bought a couple of small clamps and a 3-hole die-cast aluminum rectangular electrical box cover such as you would use for wall lighting for two floods and a sensor. That stuff was $1. More like it!
Then I went upstairs to where they have electronic goods, and I bought a couple pairs of Cambridge Soundworks mini bookshelf speakers, model was Ensemble (1 pr) and Ensemble II (1 pr). Total twenty bucks. The cones looked good, no apparent damage to the tweeters either, and the cases were intact. I took a chance. I hooked 'em up when I got home, they work fine, and I will eventually put them in my garage, with a sub-woofer set at 150 hz, as that's where the mini speakers roll-off. No, not tools, but a better deal than the overpriced **** at the pawn shop. And, a good addition to the shop, when I get around to it. The turntable was bought at the same shop years ago for $30.
