Hi,

I just picked up this vice.

Can someone help me identify it?

The jaws are 14cm (about 5,5inch), they open 17cm (about 6,7 inch)

Thanks!

Found this one today that's the good news but sold my big FPU bison, a good friend bought it so I don't feel to bad.

I can see those round knobs being quite handy. I have many times clamped an old socket or piece of pipe with a rod or piece of flat bar that I'm bending into a curve. Can such a vise with that feature still be bought? BCD.

BCD: I don't know of a new vise that has the pipe bending feature and maybe because just buying a pipe bender or a small version of a pipe bender that can attach to your bench won't break as easily. i know Dunlap and maybe a few other vises had jaws that had something like this you could use. i don't think Emmert vises like this have been made in close to 100 years, but i know some Emmert pattern vises were made in Taiwan under American tool and machine company's name.

Bottlecap, what you need is a bending hardy to go in your vise.---There are different sizes and you could make your own.---Check out the EBay link.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odk...ending+hardy.TRS0&_nkw=bending+hardy&_sacat=0

I have a feeling if you put side pressure on those cast Emmert nobs, you would break a nice vise.---JMO---Those nobs are for holding a particular type of jaw, in forward pressure.---Check out page 951 of this forum.

Bought these three, with stand, for $100 today. Love the old Parker with the anvil and horn.

If you weld you can also make a bending jig that is that simple.

This one was initially made by a friend of mine during a build of a '59 4X4 Ford truck for brackets and linkage. Somewhere around here I have a handle that slips onto the taller "hinge pins" and has a pusher plate that makes it easy to bend cleanly.

Hello Vise Friends,
The Auction Gods smiled on me yesterday. First 4 pictures below is an Erie Tool Works 3" combo vise, that I had the winning bid on, with a box of power tools. I was pleased that it was in great shape (outside of its aged look). It operates flawlessly, has the complete pipe jaw set, and nothing's broken. Does anyone know anything about it? Date of manufacture?
I plan to resell it. I'll need to determine a fair asking price for it, as I've never had one with the single stud mount base. Before putting it up for sale, I'll do one of the following:
1. Clean it up and lubricate it.
2. Strip all of the paint & surface rust, apply BLO and lubricate it.
3. Complete restoration. Black paint with silver embellishments.
What do you guys think?

The last 3 pictures are some other interesting things that I got the winning bid on:

Got this guy for Christmas it's a smal Chicago Majestic 34 I don't know much about it.

One thing is that it has smooth faced jaws and pipe jaws? To me that doesn't make sense.

Any thoughts? Should I keep it or exchange for a newer made in USA jack that they also have in stock.

VISEs, welcome, and may I say that is one nice combo, vise and stand.---Just don't hardly get any better than that.---But let me also say, that seeing that bent handle makes me think that someone in the past had little respect for a fine tool.---A bend in a vise handle is a perfect barometer for, (someone has exceeded this tools limitations).:headshake

The only thing rarer than an 8" vise, is an 8" vise with a bent handle...
