I am pretty sure we know who wins when it comes to having the best collection of Vise's and Anvil's.
Yep...
I do!!!

I was just eyeballing the jaws against the tiles and door jamb? I'd guess on the high side of that range?![]()

Outlaw/B]
Yes, the more I look at the jamb, the bigger the jaws look. I think this one is beyond the range listed.
It also does not look like there is any Prentiss Disease present (although I have been burned by strategically paint paint before). If the price is right, think someone needs to run, not walk, to pick this one up.

Nice touch with the allen bolts!OK, nothing fancy here

Hey guys, I need a little bit of info. Maybe someone with a Reed 106/206 could help me out (VISEs I know you've got one lol). I just need to know the main thread diameter.
I got both and the spindle threads are 1-1/8:3 Acme. Why may I ask that you need to know this question? Do you have one of these vises, I am looking for a nut if you can help.
Nice touch with the allen bolts!![]()
Thanks. Under the stainless caps my bench tops are 1/2" steel plate. So I drilled and tapped them to receive those Allen bolts. Thus it is really quick to unbolt a vise if I need that section of work bench clear for a project.
VISEs:
I am speechless...![]()
I agree, $100 for a 6" Prentiss that looks in perfect shape, I would have had it in my shop by now
You joined GJ July 2016, this is how long it took to take all those pictures? I assume these pics are from your personal shop and collection....vises aside, nice looking shop also.
You need to give us some back story. Not just a one liner on tap talk, but how long have you been collecting, where abouts are you located, and in all those pics, not 1 or 2, but many unique looking vises, big and small. You must have some good stories behind some of these.
You have a ballpark number on how many you have?
BTW, welcome to the vise thread
RS: that little Craftsman vise looks great on your bench. i really like the idea of tapping holes in your bench top so you can remove the vise when it's in the way. WELL DONE!!
VISES: nice collection!! welcome to the group and i think we've had other members posting your vises for years so i'm guessing you know a few of us already. CHEERS!!
Thanks! Someone else on the web is missing those parts.

Other damage that is pretty common are chunks taken out of the end of the slide from dropping them.
Maybe you could mention foreign companies for the international readers?

I'm still looking for the "T" shaped jaws for a Colombian 605 M2 vise. I tried the guy that was recommended here but no longer seems to be actively making hardened/serrated jaws?
Thanks

It's probably not to fair for me to post pictures of my stuff without saying something. I have never taken part in any social media whatsoever and quite honestly I am absolutely blown away when I see what so many people spend their time on....Facebook and similar. When I was told about this "garage journal" I blew it off as another BS "social media" type website. About 6 months ago I decided to start reading y'alls posts and my mind began to change about blowing this one off. It's taken we a while to read every single post on GJ (the vises specific) but I'm finally caught up....I give everyone who contributes to this deal an A+++! The material within is outstanding!!
I told myself that if I could ever catch y'all that I would post some of my stuff up if I thought it would be something worth seeing.
A little about myself. I'm 38 years old and have been collecting vises and anvils since I was about 17 years old. Yes, the pictures are some of my vises.....how many do I have? Let's just say I haven't passed up my good buddy demo man....yet....but maybe.....I know he has around 400.
I have a passion for these vises and if I could travel the world buying them I certainly would...but there are responsibilities that must be taken care of so I go and do when I can.
I am a one man shop so if I don't respond to questions etc it's not that I'm intentionally ignoring them its more likely that I just haven't read them yet.
Happy vise hunting to all!!
My wife says it best when people ask about my obsession with vises and anvils.

I must say, it a pleasure to have you and your collection on here, BTW, you've got a great friend in DEMOMAN, what a cool Cat He is!
Your collection is extensive and eclectic, most impressive, thanks for sharing!
I too, do not partake in Social Media, except this page. I have met a few of these fellas, talked on the phone with several, emailed plenty and done "business" with some great guys on here.
These are some of the finest, most honest folks you can hope to find on "The Web".
I consider them friends, and I think they are happy you introduced yourself, as am I.
Welcome!

Mike,
thank you for the kind words. I agree Demoman is an outstanding guy and most importantly a wonderful family man. He and I recently went on a 5 day picking trip. WHAT A BLAST! We filled up my 30' gooseneck and need to go back the rest!
Here is a picture of me standing "on top of the world" admiring a few of Demoman's big boy vises!

We are all just people on a computer, and from the little we share on these forums, hard to know if someone is struggling to get by, living well, good or bad health, great person or miserable #&%€√. To see that pic of you, with you and Demo going on a 5 day pic, that's what it is all about.
I am happy with where I am in life, but often think if I could go back 20-30 years and not work to make a living but, do what I like and be able to support myself and family while doing it....if only.
God bless you and anyone else who can be so lucky![]()
