It might be, but I've had great success with Ivory bar soap for wood on wood. It applies better if its not bone dry, (get it wet, let it "surface dry" but still be soft from being wet...)
I am from Canada! I will take more pictures tomorrow. The bottom of the drawers have some green (textile?) Sorry for my worst English. ..MASI: you might have to post a few more pictures of that cool old box with the drawers and top open. it sort of looks like maybe there was an oval shaped decal on the middle big drawer, but it might just be a stain. i don't see any writing on the locks which is sometimes another indicator on who made your box.
i'm guessing you are from across the pond because it doesn't say in your location. or where are you located? that box looks like it was built like a tank and old too.
TY for re-sizing.This might be easier to see.
Hi! The toolbox is 18" high. The 2 metal bars are hold in place by 2 Springs loaded pins that are pressed by the lid when it close.TY for re-sizing.
Do you guys thing the 2 bars were done By a/the PO?
never saw bars down the front like that.
He did a clean job on it if so, and a clean job on the metal corner brackets too.

That box must have been made like that with the corner and side brackets?
It's written Corbin, made in Canada. All the drawers have the bottom made from sheet metal. I don't know if it was standard in wooden tools box...MASI: thanks for the huge picture of your locking system. it also gave us the first clue on your box. CORBIN on the clasp with MADE IN THE USA stamped on it. maybe we can see if anybody knows which company used Corbin hardware?
keep posting pictures as you can and if you might want to just use the PAPERCLIP just above where we post to maybe get them a little smaller so we don't have to scroll side to side might work better. i'm not sure how DD resized your first picture, but it really showed the entire box.
in any case keep the pictures coming in any fashion you can cause that box your Gramp's gave you is built like a tank.
Maybe you should have at least offered the gunny bears?Just picked these up last night and I think I scored a bit on them. From searching it seems that they are vintage, but they are so clean I wouldn't have expected them to be older than 10 years tops. All metal, no rust, every drawer has the plastic dividers. The ones online are going for about $40-$60 for just 1.
Short story: Found on Craigslist, guys was asking $25 for 1 box. When I got there he had 2 and I got them both for $38.
Long story: I never have cash so I took $40 out at the bank. Since I needed to break one of the 20's I stopped at a gas station to buy something random and cheap. Haribo sour gummy bears (not sour at all btw). So when I showed up I only had $38.09. I didn't know he had the 2 boxes and he said he was selling both and would take $40. I told him the bank to gas station story and he took the $38. I kept the bears.
They're cool and really tiny. If you search "TRW Electronic Products box" you'll see the ones on ebay. These are way cleaner than any on there too. I like them.

Kerr: nice find and if you can also post a few pictures of the insides of the drawers that would be great if you have the time to. funny story too and sounds like a great seller.
ALL: i'm still working out trying to find a spot for my recent 133 drawer units and since one was missing a drawer i arranged to buy this one too. can you believe i bought this big cabinet cause i needed one drawer? well you can't have too many cabinets like this can you. at least i'll have 3 full ready to go units once i clean them up so 400 more drawers to fill. DRIVESITFAR'S HARDWARE STORE might be ORGANIZED in the near future.
as far as filling the empty holes on the new cabinet i could always stick it in storage and put small wood pieces in the slots and have open drawer holes while i'm waiting to find more drawers or find a need for a different option.
any ideas what i could re purpose this as??
Wag: nice looking stuff and i know you probably have more than a few cool and expensive tools in those too. so do you race or just like to ride bikes?
thanks for sharing and if I recall correctly didn't you just buy a blue Snappy at a pawn shop that isn't in the picture.
Wag, do you have a vertical compressor? That would fill the dead corner nicely.

MRK, those are "decade" boxes for resistors. The numbers are the resistor values. Nice find! Usually the ones I see (and mine for that matter) are all plastic..
KERR: yep those are great little boxes. now to figure out what you want to put in them. are those your resistors or did they come with the box?
