So my building has been up since early April of last year and I probably finished up electrical 3 months ago but just a couple of weeks ago finally got lights up. I did my best to be disciplined and wait until drywall and paint was all done but man it was tough. But SOOO happy to finally have lights and easily usable power out there!

This forum and this "Lighting" section in particular were very helpful in my decision making process of what lights to go with and how to lay them out, so I thought I would post up with what I went with and the results. And I specifically want to thank Platonic Solid for his summary threads/info because both were very helpful.

But as stated in my title, my garage is 24x36 with 12' ceilings. I put up 15 4ft dual bulb Maxlite fixtures and used these LEDXPERT bulbs. I also plan to add one more fixture beneath the stairs on the back wall but want to get some wall mounted cabinets and my work bench installed first to help with placement.

I may add a couple more fixtures running perpendicular to the long rows in the middle of the garage later on but for now there is plenty of light. Honestly, it's not quite as bright as I had hoped for but I think I may have had my expectations set too high, lol. I did bring home a light meter from my office and at waste high (3 - 4 feet) most of the garage is measuring between 550 - 650 lux. I swore in my original calcs I had planned on enough light to have closer to 900 lux but I can't find those notes right now. But I likely either left something out of the equation or maybe the bulbs just aren't putting out the advertised lumens. Either way below are the pics of the results and like I said, overall I'm very pleased.

Looks awesome!

If you are "unsatisfied" with the amount of light, I suggest adding lights on the wall at about the 6' level.

Looks great, I am looking at doing similar in my garage this year. Just cant decide if I want to put a ceiling hatch in so it can be wired through the ceiling or run conduit like you did. bonus with hatch is I can check insulation in ceiling as it was already sheetrocked for fire code when I bought the house so I dont know if its insulated or how well it is.

The cobra. What color is that? Doesn't look like a stock 03-04 color.

Thanks guys.

I may do this back where the lift is going (blue tape on floor... mostly in front of single bay door) but that will come down the road. I used the money I kind of had set aside for a lift to go ahead and do drywall and paint. I've worked on cars for 20 years without a lift, whats another one or so?

Yeah, I could have run all the wire in the ceiling but ultimately decided the conduit wouldn't look bad and would be less troublesome than trying to fish all the wire through holes in the sheetrock, especially if I changed my mind on the layout of the lights.

It's not a stock color... on 03/04 Cobras anyway. It is '93 Cobra Teal. She's my Teal Terminator! It's actually a Fobra (fake Cobra)... started life as an '01 V6 but had EVERYTHING transferred off a wrecked '04 Cobra. There is a long story behind the car but I won't bore you with the details now. But a cool note is I originally bought the car back in '06 did a lot of work to it, then sold it in 2011, kept in touch with the guy I sold it to, and just bought it back from him a few months ago. It was nice to have a manual transmission back in my life and can't complain about the power either :) (~625 rwhp)...

I bought the lights from www.LEDlightingwholesaleinc.com. Do NOT buy them from www.contractorscommercial.com! They were linked from one of the main lighting threads on this forum for a while but I think after a few folks, including myself, got screwed by them that thread has since been updated with another vendor. I got my money back but only after much delay and only through my credit card company. Anyway, LED Lighting was great to deal with.

My floor is Armorpoxy/Armorclad. For more details you can read my thread here: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=332139

And your toy in your sig looks fun but not as fun as a Mach I. ;) But I know how it is... one can become bored with anything after a while. Hell, I sold the above Cobra after having dumped massive amounts of time, money, energy, blood, sweat and tears into it and getting it near "perfect", lol. I was just lucky enough to have the opportunity to buy it back with very few additional miles on it, a new Maximum Motorsports front suspension, and for less than I sold it for! I should keep it forever now but the truth is if it hangs around 3-5 years I'll be lucky. Just how it goes... there is always something "new" out there that I'd like and my money tree isn't growing fast enough to keep them all AND buy new ones so... out with the old and in with the new eventually.

I kept in contact with my buyer too and told him I wanted first dibs if he sold it. Found out he flipped it into a ditch and totaled it a year or so after he bought it. The real kicker was that I bought it new, had it 9 years with only 18k miles, only been in rain a half a dozen times coming back from car shows, cruises, and the dragstrip. Took multiple 1st place trophies, including 1st in a National MCA Show at Biltmore. I was absolutely sick when I found this out :(

I miss the car, but I got tired of being **** about it. Had my 2 sons and didn't want to worry about getting upset if the accidently rode a bicycle into it. Couldn't care less about the Teryx4 since it gets scratched to pieces in the woods. It's worked out well and my wife and boys get to go along too.

Well that ***** to hear about your Mach. I've got a buddy who had a Screaming Yellow '04, who sold it to a local guy, and then a year or so later randomly passed it on a flat bed all messed up. He was pretty sure it was his b/c it had some custom wheels on it but he quickly made a U-turn, and followed the truck/car to the salvage yard up the street. Sure enough after taking a closer look he found out it was his. :(

And I totally get where you are coming from with worrying about a car. I've been there with my daily driver (Magnum SRT8). I sold one I had that was near perfect and found myself in another one about 18 months later but it wasn't nearly as clean, inside or out, but its been kind of nice not to have to be overly paranoid about it.

And it sounds like you are enjoying the Teryx4 with the family, and that's all that really matters.

Today I added some Westinghouse fans to go along with my lights. I love the ways these bad boys look and they move a lot of air. And for less than $70 each they are hard to beat for the money. The only thing I "upgraded" was the controller because as you'll see below the one that comes with them is huge and looks like it came straight out of 1985. I installed a variable speed decor switch that someone else recommended either off of this forum or off of Amazon's comment section (I think it was the latter). The only negative to this setup is that I cannot run the fans in the opposite direction but I'm not too worried about it.

Fan details here.

Anyway, on to the pics/video:

I can't seem to get the video to embed within this post so you'll have to click on the the link.
