rodm1,

Do you have the R9 or the R380? I like my R9s but only in certain "social situations" in other words, when I can't carry anything larger (weddings, social functions, etc.)

Yes I have an R9 and I agree 100% with you and that! That is what the R9 maker designed it for. But it is grate for quick runs to the gas station or the just plan lazy:shocking:.

Ok ... I guess I'm thinking of some dudes I've seen on TV that have the gun in back of their pants without a holster and I guess they DO drag the muzzle across their body line, because they got the handle pointed in the other direction. :dunno:

"dudes I've seen on TV" will get killed real quick in a real life SHTF scenario. You really need a good instructor and train monthly at minimum.

Proper draw and triger control very very important:

short

I can see the use of a gun as a deterrent or self-defense for getting jacked on your tool route, but I'm wondering how it would go down in Texas courts were you to shoot a guy as he flees with a socket or adapter?

The Law that works in most states is if you believe you will be crippled, raped, and or killed from the encounter deadly force is justified.

You can expect to spend some time in jail until your attorney get involved.

A friend of mine from Texas was held recently, when an intruder broke into his house. Not only did the guy break and enter and steal from him, he also attacked my friend with a knife when he was confronted. The intruder was shot 18 times. My friend's gun holds 16 rounds in the magazine and 1 in the chamber..

He was arrested over it, and later released. I don't know all the details though.

Wish we had the same laws here. Years back, my dad chased a burglar out our house. My dad was wielding a machete chasing the guy (who pissed himself while running away!) my dad was told by the police that he (He being my dad) could be arrested and imprisoned, had he caught the guy. My mum and sister were in the house at the time.

I'm not anti-gun, but unless you are a cop, in gangland, it seems overkill to me. I have a good friend, up the road, he is always armed like Rambo, even to go down the street and get a sandwich. He always looks around, and thinks any moment, he may need to open fire. :headscrat It got a little annoying, and I told him so. He cut it down to a 9mm, semi-auto with one new magazine, just to shut me up LOL..........I still think he has plenty, he always brings one of his guns to the door, even if he knows who is there. :headscrat You never know right! as he says..........

So that's what Tackleberry is up to these days!

Where'd the extra bullet come from?

He reloaded and shot him again after shooting him 17 times

That was the problem.

Yep. After emptying a whole magazine into the guy, and not missing once, he reloaded and made sure the guy wasn't getting up. I forget what they wanted to charge him for, excessive force or something? He was released without charge in the end.

Thanks for the info. As someone began to mention above, in other states, if you shoot someone you are going to jail. Probably for a long time, no matter what the circumstances. In CA you can open carry (I like reading through the opencarry.org forums on occasion), and I've been told by a neighbor who is a cop that in almost all cases in California, that as a civilian, your life's over if a civilian shoots someone, whether you've have good cause or not. My guess is that besides armed "home invasion," most prosecutors and probably even jurys aren't going to look favorable on it.

As the old saying goes, i would rather be tried by twelve, than carried by six.

If somebody is in my house, it's open season.

I have no problem with thieves getting shot, either. Then we don't have to pay to feed them.

I haven't been able to substantiate this, but I have heard that a certain former senator of Massuchusetts who recently passed away...back in the late '70s...was pushing legislation that would make it a crime for a homeowner to use deadly force against an intruder in his home.

True, but killing someone over a $12 adapter would be quite ridiculous. Considering the prices those Snap On folks charge their customers, they should be shot!

Why does Snap On charge 2x the cost to "regular" folks but the Industrial side and students pay regular price?

It's ridiculous over here. Someone can break into your home and sue you if you injure them, or they get injured. It's total BS.

The law is against you, when someone breaks in to YOUR home and put you and your family at risk.

And the robber won!!!

Hearing about stuff like this just makes me sick to my stomach. It just plain sad that cases like this even make it to court let alone having the scumbag thief win.

Seeing the name "Joe H' in this thread is awesome to me. Could this possibly be Joe Horn, who is something of a hero to many here in Houston? If you're not familiar, he famously shot two burglers in his neighbors house last year here in Houston and didn't get in trouble. Texas isn't perfect but this is one of the good things.

if you can't change the system, use it. avoid spending time on the non-productive stuff such as going back and forth to the sheriff's office making statement after you shot the SOB, avoid spending money on lawyers, avoid time in jail at all costs.

sooner or later the scumbag will need you to warranty some thing, payback would be a ***** at that time.

You've never had to leave your house. If you had a CHL you had to retreat if possible. That law has since changed to where you no longer have to retreat.

Because Snap On is selling it direct. Not at regular price, but below the dealers cost in most cases.

For example, Matco's student discount is 52%. There is absolutely nothing that I get that has that much of a profit margin.

Autoace,

Just got back home from a trip to Atlanta. Yes, I had both on me. I also checked the air in the tires, oil, coolant, brake fluid and ****** fluid levels before I left. I also drive defensively, stay at or under the speed limit and don't drive stupidly.

I have a duty to keep my family safe and protected and do what I feel is required to accomplish that duty. Cops are good at cleaning up the mess after something happens but are rarely there when a crime is commited. It is MY responsibility to protect my family from harm and I WILL DO SO. You consider it "overkill", I consider it "prudent". By the way, every concealed carry holder that I know of tries to avoid conflict at all cost. No one wins if the situation gets down to gunfire. We are aware of our surroundings but we don't "go looking for trouble"

For me to own a gun would be the ultimate Jinx ... I just know I'd get in trouble somehow if I had one. I'm scared to death of prisons ... too many episodes of Prison Break I suppose. :shocking:

In Texas, before the Castle Doctrine went into effect, you had a duty to retreat. So what you had to do if you shot someone on your property is tell the cops " I backed up 2 steps and then I shot him". That covered your duty to retreat.

I'm with you really, wasn't trying to come down on you. I have the same mentality you have, I am just not as heavily armed. I just have a more conservative idea of how much I need.

If you catch him, make him drop trou on the truck, and show everybody the proper use of a nut splitter. That should take care of future theft.

ditto - one of my friends had a air compressor blow up in his garage, which started a fire. His wife called 911. Fire and police showed up. My friend got in confrontation with police officer when friend wanted to let geese out of pen next to burning garage. Officer tried to restrain him. Friend was carrying concealed 2 shot derringer. He claimed officer started to draw his gun so friend shot officer twice, one in arm and other in eye. Officer died. Friend claimed self defense. He is currently serving life term, no parole. He had just recently retired. Officer had wife and 2 small kids. Bad deal all around.

Rule #1 - Never shoot at a police officer :shocking:
