Vapor barrier required for blown-in?

I've got an attached 2-car garage and am turning it into a shop. There's a 60K Btu Reznor, so heat's certainly taken care of, however, the two exterior walls have no insulation and I'd like to remedy that. My first thought was just to blow in cellulose, but I saw a mention in another thread about a vapor barrier. That guy was in the process of building his walls, so he had that option, however, mine are already built. Am I screwed here?

Thanks in advance.

This is done all the time in older homes (mine included) that never had vapor barrier inside.

The blown in cellulose is densely packed in the wall cavity and restricts air movement much more vs typical fiberglass which allows a lot of air movement (which is why the "vapor" barrier is needed).

Likely you've got the cart ahead of the horse.

Is all your rough electrical done in walls?? You have outlets every 6 ft and 240v wiring run for compressor/welder?? You have ceiling outlet for hanging electric cord reel?? Would a subpanel make sense in garage??

You have all the lighting installed that garage needs (rough wiring/switches or ceiling outlets for LED lighting) ?? Lighting needs done before additional insulation is added for ceiling where majority of your heat is lost.

Do you have plans for airline system?? Will you put copper of black pipe steel in the walls, or surface mount after walls sheetrocked??

Good luck planning out your improvements, but keep all your steps in the proper order.

Do you have drywall up? If not I'd go fiberglass or roxul

Right. It apparently didn't occur to the guy replying that I would probably have finished this job awhile ago. :bounce:

And sold that house.
