Anyone have info on this IR compressor?

It's an IR 30T and they made a million of them, and a great compressor.

I'd guess from the looks of it, it needs the crankcase cleaned out,
oil change (use compressor oil not motor oil), new air filter, general
wash down and de-grease for starters. Adjust belt tension, drain
rust out of tank.

26-30 CFM, 175 psig max, built stout and parts are avaialble. Head overhaul kit is about 30$ per head, complete overhaul kit runs about 210$. Service it, treat it right and it will outlast your kids and probably your grandkids too. I've got one mounted on a 120 gallon horizontal tank for my shop. It needs going thru before I run it though.

Actually not buying it.. gonna try an see if my company will allow me to find someone I can give it away to.. fleet mechanics got a new one, this has been sitting where it is for weeks now as "management finds a responsible way to dispose of it" as I'm told...
It's a long shot, as they may say "we don't want the liability" and may very well wind up in a dumpster somewhere.. the mechanics themselves couldn't care less where it goes, as long as it's not where it is. I'd have to try and contact the motor vechile manager and see if they'd just let someone that will use it, take it.. I'm sure it needs work, a rebuild maybe, but it was working - and I'm sure somebody may want it..
Grab it and sell it on CL.

Maybe you can alert a deserving soul as to when it's going to be
"tipped" in, and let them tip it in their truck instead.

I'd be all over that like a fat kid on cake.
So, by comparing pics online, I'm guessing this is an 80 gallon tank? looks like a new equivalent would be around $2,000 or so?
Where would someone find a decent "complete" rebuild kit for it? I see the major overhaul kits come with connecting rods - don't think it would need that much..
If I can get this for someone, I'd like to be able to provide some info., can it be rebuilt with just normal hand tools, ring compressor?
And stupid question, how heavy should this thing be??

I have this T30 on an 80 gallon tank also from IR. I have not complaints about this IR. It could be a little quieter is I used a DONALDSON canister and filter.
The T30 easily keeps up with the media blast cabinet set to 80-90#
Parts are available and affordable. My tank was Craigslist, $100, The 5hp motor was another CL buy for $100.
I bought the pump in pieces at an auction. I was the only bidder at $25. The compressor pump was complete and included a master rebuild kit. It all was partially buried in a large wood box with leaves and looked like junk. I used to rebuild these T30 at work and I recognised what it was in a New York Minute. All in, I was out of pocket for under $300.
The T30 easily keeps up with the media blast cabinet set to 80-90#

The 253 is a great 5HP pump. It will last forever. Call your local IR distributor for a parts quote.

Its a shame that people scrap stuff like this then scream about how good the older stuff was !!!!!!....Once its crushed and melted down its gone forever !!!!!!

Ok, here -
This was a "cleanout" that they did at just about every location of the states we operated in at the time, across the country from what I understand. So basically the entire nothereast of America, and whatever ever States we are still in, or have since sold off.. This isn't my garage, but we did the same thing. We filled about 4, 40 yard dumpsters of all brand new copper and fiber wireline equipment (that we still use), old tools, meters, office furniture, truck parts, tool boxes...
At locations they moved line construction out of, but we still had old & not frequently used equipment left behind, all went in the dumpsters. They went through my location and didn't like that the chairs didn't match. In a room with 18 lineman they left us with 4 chairs for over a month. Not including the other groups that operated out of the same building.
So basically instead of just sending all this new material back to a distribution hub for storage, and redeployment - it all went to the dump. If anyone had the means to collect it all, and sell it back to the company or even the manufacturer, you'd be a millionaire many times over..
We had another time, where from what the mechanics told me, bolts were outdated on a bunch of older bucket trucks. I have no idea if this is true, but was told the company didn't want to spend the money replacing all the bolts that hold the boom together. So I'll assume the company had plans to replace the vehicles soon anyway. Our trucks usually wind up at auctions, and about 7 of our splicing trucks were sent out after the mechanics cut the ends of every boom off with a sawzall..
Just a few off the top of my head...

So their giant old compressor was likely tossed also - and the woman making all the decisions and purchases probably had no idea they could be saved.. even funnier is they have their own mechanics sitting there on payroll that could have done the work themselves..

Motor Vehicle just spent over $20,000 maybe a year ago fixing the oldest bucket truck we have in our garage.. they replaced it last week with a brand new fully outfitted model...
Company just announced its investing almost a billion dollars into their wireline budget.. if I try and order tools, that gets denied though, and I'm bribing vendors with gin to just to get worklights.. lol. Go figure..

My father said when they shut down the Newfoundland railway in 1989, they threw freshly rebuilt EMD 567-C V12 diesels right into the scrapper.
