This started with me remembering about a vise left by the previous homeowner. Which has set out under a lean to for the past 9 years.

Doing the interweb scan, I found little information. Some pictures here and there, with a link or two to eBay or Worthpoint.

Then it always came up with the V112/V111 castings. The vise I happen to have is a V118/V117 casting, the bigger brother. At this point I decided to give it a resto/clean up job and put it to use.

I am missing the pipe jaws at this time. Have plans to have some cut at work. I am also going to replace the jaw inserts.

The V118/117 casting has a jaw width of 4 1/2 inches.

Fits in perfectly with the pre-war Craftsman bandsaw and early 80's Craftsman 6x48 sander.

I think I have a case of CIF, Cast Iron Fever. Either that or I just appreciate stuff that was built to last.

That vise has some interesting design features. It's maybe the only exposed screw vise I've ever seen I might give bench room.

The base plate is interesting. The swivel lock screw is threaded into the main casting. The nose of it locates into the dimples in the base plate. Locking down roughly every 22.5 degrees.

No there's not. :lol_hitti

Sure there are, just have to look around a little more than typical home owner grade vises. Like this Reed 134-1/2 for instance, about 80 lbs. and 4-1/2" of hell for stout.

Found this one over the weekend. From what I can tell the paint looks original.

There is overspray on some parts that make me question but if it was repainted is was done decades ago.

I bought my son one that was missing the jaws and the hardie. Did you make some? Would you be interested in making another set?
