I stayed up late the other night after the kids went to bed and got a little work done. I was able to mount my material racks and load them up with the wood and metal that has been laying around since we moved in.

I staggered the spacing of the racks to accommodate different length sticks. Spacing is: |--80"--|--80"--|-32"-| This allows for minimum lengths of 3', 6.5', 9', 13', and 16' to span at least two racks in some configuration and to try and distribute the loads across all four. Racks are screwed into studs with 3/8" lag bolts.

Loaded up

Then it was late, but i figured what the hell...i'm here, might as well tear into the mill a little bit more. So i dropped the quill since it seemed to have a sticky spot or two. It had some trash in the quill rack and needs some cleaning.

I'm sure I'll remember where all this goes...

Supermax got a new pair of shoes

And I did remember where everything went! Got the quill cleaned up and put back in along with all the external stuff and power feed mechanism. So far it all seems to work great

I started to collect all my carbide and put it in one place. Top drawer of the flat file cabinet. I thought I had a ton, but these drawers make it feel like I dont have anything.

Coming along very nicely. I like your metal rack. I have been thinking of doing something like that in my storage section of my new garage when the time comes. That was I can have it handy yet not immediately in the shop area. I may copy your wall brackets.

There's a small fortune in carbide.

Good job on the head rebuild.

Thanks!

Great space, that mill was nasty inside!

Thanks! Yes it was definitely the nastiest thing i've ever been in ;)

Thanks Mike! Pretty sure I saw similar racks here at some point, but definitely not an original idea. I like making use of the 12' walls, even though getting that steel tubing up there was fairly tricky.

Looking good. Nice job on the mill. I like that rack idea. I am going to steal it.

Thanks! I think i'm going to take the table and saddle off next. Wasnt originally planning to, but I figure I should. Yall will see that next.

Stayed up late last night and got the mill head back together. I was going to start wiring the VFD for it, but I think i'm going to pull the table and saddle off next, get them cleaned up, make sure the oilers are working, and clean/adjust all the gibs.

Decided to fire up the DRO and play with it some. This will be my first time using one and I'm definitely excited about it.

You will love the DRO Scott. I was uncertain whether I wanted the extra expense when I ordered my mill and I was pretty used to using the dials on our work mill but my son talked me into ordering the mill with the DRO and it was the best decision I made. It has made so many tasks that much simpler and faster than merely the dials alone. The bolt circle feature alone is a life saver.

Had some time to empty out my other tool bin and tool box to try and fill up the flat file. Nothing ground breaking, but thought yall might like to see.

If you recall, the top drawer contains all my carbide inserts and some lathe tooling. The next one down is for end mills and other mill tooling

Next one is big wrenches

And then allen keys and such. I know there less space invasive means to keep these, but I like them laid out and easy to get to. I use them quite a lot.

I think i've shown this before, but next one down is files, pry bars, etc.

Next is some measuring tools and drafting aids.

Last for now is big drill bit drawer. I really thought I had a lot of these morse taper drills, but these big drawers make it seem like I dont have ****.

I pulled these out just for a picture, again I thought yall would enjoy.

I've heard its not the size of the ball nose end mill that counts, its how you use it :dunno:
