Armstrong/ Mac / Matco indexable 1/4 Dr ratchet

I finally bought it off my bucket list (Armstrong 10-996) and guess what - nla forever. Got an email from Tooltopia they are refunding me. That *****. I have the 3/8 version and use it all the time. Snap on stop making their years ago. Pretty much now with Armstrong out of business I don't see me getting it.

Yea that's where I ordered mine from. In fact tool topia has mine still advertised through ebay but they really don't have any in stock. Plus why would I want to buy a ratchet now that's not rebuildable.

I have a 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 Armstrong Maxx. I went to 2 of my tool dealers trying to get renewal kits "just in case" and neither could get them for me.

The Armstrong index head ratchets are a different animal. They use the Tuff1 72t mechanism, like some SK ratchets. I used to have a 12-996 1/2 drive version when Cripe was selling them, but It has moved on.

Matco 88 kits work in the maxx series I have all three as well. Matco changed suppliers away from Armstrong. I think aj manufacturing or some such is making essentially the same ratchet for matco as Armstrong was. So the rebuild kits will work too

Like I just said, the index head ratchets use the Tuff1 mechanism. Not the 60/88 tooth Armstrong Maxx/Matco unit.

The post I quoted was about the maxx specifically...not talking about the index head. Was just trying to help the guy out

I understand a lot of places are advertising they have them, but Im not going to start buying stuff all over the internet just for a bunch of follow up emails sayings they are in fact out of stock.

You could possibly call the merchant before you order to confirm stock. You could also call Apex (the ultimate mfr) directly and tell them the part numbers you're looking for, or the ratchets you need kits for and they will SELL them to you. That way you can know if they have stock.
