I used to google search and cut and paste the ° symbol. Heres the keyboard short cut:

If you would like to make the ° symbol when typing, you can use these methods:

-On PCs - hold down the Alt key and on the numeric keypad on the right of the keyboard, type 0176, or Alt+ 248 When you release the Alt Key, a ° should be there.
-On Macs - option shift 8.

on some browsers you can't do it here typing into the "reply to thread" window.

go to your "start" menu - for some reason on windows 8 they've just made it a little "window" icon - click "run" - and type in "charmap" and the application will pop up.
or just use the ALT+ (number) keys

On nearly all Windows installations, if you look in the accessories group on the Start menu, you'll find a shortcut to 'Character map'. All those goodies await you there. Just a cut and paste away.

Re: How to type " ° " Degree symbol

°°°° I recently accidentally discovered how to type fractions out so that they look better, but I can't figure it out again. I hate the way 1 1/2" looks.

Use your alt key, hold it down and press your number keypad 0176 when you let go of the alt key your ° will print on the screen. You must use your number keypad. Google extended ascii table for a list of all the characters you can print this way.

If you are running Win7, hit the start button and type in "character map". Save to the desktop, unzip it and pin to the taskbar. All of the odd symbols are in it in many fonts. Click on the one you want, and the code pops up.

:willy_nilPerfect topic for Free Parking vs here.

Is a computer not a tool?

His code identifies a way to better communicate weights and measures with our most modern of inventions. I should think that's a tip on a better way to use a very common and yet capable tool.

I've always hated that it only works with the damn keypad on the right side of the keyboard. Why the hell can't it work with the other number keys. It really ***** when you are using a laptop without them or a 10keyless type board.

Why stop there? There are hundreds of scientific symbols and foreign language letters available. You just need the right code number. A google search for alternate keyboard characters will being up lists of the symbols and their codes.
