If you haven't seen them before, is really surprising how many little inexpensive no-name Chinese OBD-II scanners are out there.

what app do you use?
is it better than a handheld?
can you tune with it?
I know you didnt ask me, but:
1. I use Torque Pro on Android
2. I think the OBD2 Bluetooth scanner + phone/tablet app is worth it
3. No, these are not meant for tuning only reading/clearing codes. With Torque Pro, I know others have the capability as well but I don't have them, you can also use it to monitor some additional parameters apart from your dash gauges

Yep, I even happened to notice today in TSC they stock the PT (Performance Tool) basic OBD-II reader for $19.99. Looks very similar to what inspired this thread, but may lack some functionality- I have no idea.

I like Torque Pro. Good app. It's interesting to see all the data available.

Do you have any experience with them ?

Yes. Can't be beat for the price. I paid less than $10 for the module and use an old android tablet and Torque (there are others as well). You can read and reset codes all wirelessly, not encumbered by a cord.

A lot of data is available on a cars data bus ...

I have one. They are pretty cool. Nothing extensive like a pro handheld but it will diagnose/show common codes. Allow u to delete them.

Can you recommend the OBDII device you are using? There are so many on Amazon and Ebay I don't know which one to choose.

The scanner that the OP posted about is listed on Amazon Prime for $11.95.

Looks to have decent reviews.

I purchased one for that price a few months ago and I like it. Nothing fancy, it will reset codes, read codes let you know about if your monitors are set or not in case you need to perform a drive cycle before a smog check for example. I find it helpful as it's not very much money but gives you information you would normally not get if you did not have one. There are others out there that will do more however, for under $12 you can't beat it.
