Pliers with Spring loaded handles

The first thing i do if i buy pliers with loaded handles is i pull the springs out!
Dont like em!

I like em for a lot of things, especially small precision pliers and cutters. I hate the spring action when I put them away though. My pliers stand up on their sides in racks in the drawer, and the spring loaded ones don't fit right.

I used to hate them but now I sometimes leave the spring. Depends somehow. Not sure which ones I might leave but the small ones might be them.

The only ones I have with springs are small pliers and cutters and such. Never had regular sized ones with springs.

I'm kind of the opposite. I always had springless pliers, but after buying the Mac spring loaded pliers, I fell in love with them. It's nice to have both IMO.

Here are my cutters that are spring loaded. Even for repetitive work I prefer w/o. The pliers want to reopen all the way all the time and im no wuss but something has to be said about that constant resistance.

Only my small ones like my SO 307s have springs which are more useful IMO

Definitely a PITA. I put an elastic around the handles when storing.

That is very true i wasnt even considering the spring action in those ergo styles. I have the wiha cutters its a totally different motion than traditional pliers have.

I forgot about those too. That thumb lock is really nice. Those are some of my favorite pliers, though I wish I had your version instead of the rebadged Irwins.

All my little Xcelite pliers and cutters for electronics have them. I've got a few older pairs without them and they're a bit of a pain, especially the smaller ones. With bigger ones, you can use the pinky trick which serves the same purpose. Trimming all the leads on a through-hole board with non--spring-loaded cutters would be very tedious.

Car and machine sized pliers, the spring isn't very useful.

That's funny, I thought I was the only one that pulls the springs out. My Mom got me a pair of long handled needle nose pliers for Christmas, the first thing I tried to do was pull the spring out from under the rubber handles, I struggled and struggled, ended up tearing the rubber. Come to find out these springs were actually riveted onto the handles.

I like both personally, so I have many with springs and many without. It depends on the situation which one I will prefer.

I like them in wire and cable cutters, just easier to get the cutters around the item being cut. All the versions I own have catches of some sort for easy storing.

I'm not a fan of the springs either. That said, I have a set of pliers with springs, I use them occasionally to see if it's just because I'm too used to pliers without springs. The jury is still out.

I have a pair of Klein ironworker pliers with the spring and I like them, I just wish they had a latch mechanism to hold themselves shut.

I also have the Irwin/NWS ergo multi needle nose and I agree with the above, the thumb lock is awesome!

I love spring loaded pliers, as long as they have a lock. Crescent has a line of spring loaded needle nose, cutters, and linesman that have excellent double-acting design, however the cutters are soft. I dulled them pretty fast just cutting 14ga copper. If Knipex made double-acting spring-loaded pliers with a lock similar to the Crescent design, they would be my ultimate pliers.
