Husky 26 in. W 9-Drawer Tool Chest ($49 - $54 ) at Home Depot

For this reason, I think I'm letting mine go. I had a serious case of buyer's remorse when I got home and played with the drawers more. I can see my screwdrivers 'in shambles' by the super strong closure of the drawer. I feel like I'm the only one that finds this feature a negative.

Has anyone tried to soften the closure on their box or other Husky boxes with this style slides? I had visions of some sort of foam behind the drawers, but would be happy to entertain other ideas.

not sure but my international box closed super hard like these and all i had to do was bend a little hump out of the back of the slides... I will check later and let you know if its the same

All you have to do is cut the little hook off the end of the track look at the pics i have inclosed

I had the family assist me, and the box went from a perfect shape to a bulging dent on the back as it came across the edge of a table when being placed on top of the bottom cabinet. Luckily I took out a ball pein (anxiously), and was able to fix the dent that I created, and in turn slightly marred the surface (good thing it was on the back of the chest). Again, this thing is heavy and built like a tank. Its disgusting--hard to swallow (pun intended)

Oh, and I removed the liner I was going to place this box on. Its resting directly on the plywood now. Great stuff.

Just picked one up at my local HD. I ordered it online because they showed in stock but couldn't be found anywhere. Apparently they were being stored in receiving by the loading bay.

Box is about 100lbs empty and for $50, you cant go wrong. I'm going to use mine in my truck for service calls. Even if it only lasts a couple years for the price I won't be upset.

I asked the delivery guy to help me move it, (pretty big guy) He picked It right up.

It was in perfect condition when I got it though, what a good way to start off a relationship with a new box.

I actually suggest everyone to lube the slides. My drawers are pretty harsh and bone dry and they close with a strong thud.

I don't know, for $23.00 more, I'd get that 27" 7 drawer.
We are hoping it will come down.
It's $149.00 now.

Yes it will work, I'd be tempted to jump on that but the 7 drawer layout is perfect for me I prefer to have more thinner drawers since I have more hand tools than power tools

Yeah, next think ya know, the nuts and bolts would be jumping over the drawer, and maybe jamming up the drawer below it, on jumping into the chest housing.

Definitely recommend opening and inspecting the box at the store. A lot of these bad to be damaged before packing. Last Thursday I opened up the three my store had, one was punched on the bottom, drawer wouldn't open, another was crunched in top front corner. And the one I bought worked properly but had a 2" ding on the lid. All the packaging looked untouched.

The top was also locked and they didn't know where the key was. This one was the floor model.

Picked up mine today. Quick open and inspection showed no damage to the outside. Will inbox it tomorrow morning and get it filled up. Can't beat the size and price. Plenty more to be had around the area too.

Dang...I just realized I have another two empty drawers, this time on the old Craftsman Standard duty rolling chest (used to house my pliers there--now they're in the Husky). I was about to place the hammers in those flimsy drawers, but quickly realized they were already occupying two other Craftsman drawers in a separate heavy duty box.

I might as well start a junk drawer, not that I didn't already have one *cough*

Time to buy more tools..................

My son and I put the chest on top of the Waterloo Lowes special bottom cabinet. I have the Sears wooden cabinet top on the Waterloo, so we didn't have to bend anything. The chest just sits on top of the wooden top. This is not permanent as the Waterloo is going to the farm with a smaller chest/box on top. I dread moving the Husky chest again as it is a heavy sucker. While I have it empty I'll start putting in the liner.

PLEASE everyone that purchased this box ... take a look at the following photos.

Story line: Purchased this box, along with a wheeled bottom at HD on 2-5-17. I've been busy so I haven't had much time to organize either box. i DID get a chance to fill the top about 1/3rd full. This is important to remember ... only 1/3rd full. Today I decide to organize and fill the box so I start picking through tools to add to the box. I walk over to the box and notice that the top drawers have started to sag towards the center. Take a look:

I removed the top drawers and took this pic:

All but one spot weld has failed and only one is holding the whole front of the top mini drawers. The metal L-bracket has started to bend out of shape, causing the sagging of the top shelves. All of this with the box only 1/3rd filled!


I'm calling HD to see what can be done. I posted this as a warning ... remove your top shelves and check your spot welds.

Will do as soon as I get back from HD. My local store has three in stock and I just loaded the POS into my truck. Its so heavy that I had to remove all of the drawers.

When you pulled all of the drawers, was there any support between the box wide drawer(row 4 and 5) and the bottom of that center rail support? Or is that center rail support just hanging by those spot welds at the top? If so, it's not likely to last long when the top 3 rows of drawers are fully loaded unless they have a low weight max like 10lbs or something.

I can't pick that SOB up my self. 5 years ago, maybe, But I don't have the strength today.
Must be 20 years now, Picked up my Craftsman bench-top 150 drill press, motor and all, off one bench, carried it to another bench/stand.
I would be on My A$E$ today.
Funny how 2 months in the hospital, and later, bad knees, and you loose your strength and confidence too.
Should have got the big boy that delivered it to heft it on top of the Waterloo.

Yup, you got it. I wouldn't put too much weight in those six narrow drawers even if the welds look good. As requested, here is the culprit:

I was able to get a replacement ... but it had a small dent that I didn't discover until I got home, after trucking it through the rain. I've decided that for $50 I got what I paid for. These boxes are OK for the money buy I am not sure they will hold up in the long run. My first box lasted two while weeks!

I've gotten husky boxes for years & for the money can't go wrong but I'll tell ya this from years of first hand experience with them that a liquid graphite in the aerosol can is going to be your ball bearing slidders best friend... I've tried it all and that stuff is amazing on these little guys. Don't be shy with it either. Thank me in 5 years when they still roll like new if not a little better given u don't get rid with em.

It's a bit of a mess but this 400 lb 2 piece monster was only 500 on sale from 700 also with the thick husky embedded liners.
