Here's my newly acquired Wilton C2 vise that I picked up for the generous amount of $50.

WAG: looks like the pin was removed and modified so it could be taken out easier the next times. since you bought it from a machine shop even though it looks a little rough that tells me at least it was maybe cleaned and greased more than once. nice price, but as some people might not understand your price it was part of a package deal for a lot of big machines instead of something they could just buy on it's own. you do seem to find some great stuff and not sure how you don't own a 60x120 garage or rent storage like i have to.

Zoomie: once you own it i'm sure we'll get pictures. does it have a place to be used or just adding it to the SEA of TETNUS??

I saw this Buffalo 6 vise that is an obvious Wilton bullet clone. These were apparently made in Taiwan. Pics for posterity and the Craigslist ad it came from. Priced quite a bit higher than I would pay.

https://texarkana.craigslist.org/tls/6019712600.html

I am with you on it being a bit pricey. I am somewhat surprised that we don't see more Wilton copies out there considering how popular and how well they sell.

This found me today! Amazing!

VISEs: Here are two catalog pages, one from 1900 and one from 1912, showing your Nason Mfg. Co. pipe vise. Nason was a plumbing supply company in New York City. I also included some information about Joseph Nason and J.J. Walworth. With all your vises I assume that you have at least one Walworth. If you do, please post some pictures when you have the time.

VISEs, CRS
On the Nason - BTW one was listed today on EvilPrey (Item #262874369004): way, way, way over my budget....

This took longer than it should have (This patent is in my collection, or is it accumulation, of what I consider important vise patents):

Patented by David Saunders of Brooklyn, NY. Letters of Patent do not contain a submission date, which is very odd, but the patent was granted 28 May 1867 as per the lettering on the vise which was none too clear on VISEs vise.

Here is the USPTO URL. It contains the images and full text of the patent:

JKB: Thanks go to you once again. I couldn't quite read the patent date on the picture VISEs posted. I tried a few possible variations without success. I was going to ask VISEs if he could read the date on the actual vise but I forgot. I've added it to my files now - you never know.

EDIT: Have you added Saunders/Nason to the Vise Manufacturers' thread?

Thank you for sharing!!!

I reached out to the person selling the one online. They came off the price some but not enough in my opinion otherwise I would have bought it.

Great great vise!

Not yet. I actually have several manufacturer's history's in the works, but solid facts are tough to come by and converting bitmaps to jpegs slows me down - the .BMP file size limits for uploading prohibit many of the supporting articles I want to include to be uploaded as screen shots. :(

Just started looking for Nason this AM, just do not have the time I need to do things correctly.

I can't wait to read those histories, but by all means take the time to do it right.

Someone please look back on page 1776, post 35516, and tell me what kind of vise that is or what the logo is on the side. Thanks

If you follow the link in the quote, he says that it's a Record with 4-1/2" jaws.
No model number is listed, unless it came up in a later post. I didn't follow the chain that far.

EDIT : CRSINMICH beat me to it.

New toys from a new friend! Plenty of "smalls" to put on them but still need my first baby bullet.

20170228_181300-1.jpg

Looking good there trijeff.

Keep looking...there are more than a few out there. But nice ones go for pretty big bucks. I looked a long time for my first and so far my only and found one in great condition but had to pay 250.

It is a Columbian 604 m2. They guy wants $50 for it.

Handle looks slightly bent and I cannot see the Model or where it was made but I would assume its on the other side?

Again these are not my vises, they are from GJ member KMScott. Three Athol's, a 2" Athol 87, a 3" Athol 613, and an 3" Athol 79. You look at the 79, as well as the 2 Red Seals I posted a few days ago, and the jaws are dead giveaways as to who made them.

I post them so I can link them....

A few more pics...

Three American Red Seal 53 BEFORE pics; the finished product are the red painted ones I posted a couple of days ago.

Then the last pic is a Majestic 3 1/2" vise sent to me by CRSINMICH. He has a clipping showing that Majestic and Morgan had the same Jefferson street address in Chicago. Anyone else have any info showing that Majestic was made or owned by Morgan?

That would have been a real nice vise and stand combo to have, bummer.

Of course if we listen to Joe Striper (and many of the posts you have shown), you have no shortage of big iron. Outside of Demo, you have an impressive 8" collection.

That one is another one I have. Here is the before pic's of the red A-Scale you posted a couple days ago this one had much more damage. It came out pretty nice, but like everyone says, you never know what is under paint. These vises were practice for the rare guys.

Looks like it says Western Vise Co. On the front of the static, Western Tool & Mfg Co. on the rear.

From a post bl00 made in 2011, "Champion was a trade name for a line of wrenches, vises and other tools manufactured by the Western Tool & Mfg Co, Springfield, Ohio."

So it looks like yes.

I was told that you guys like vises. I picked up a Reed 106 this week from Craigslist and made a quick "before" video to show where it is now. I'll follow up after (maybe during) a cosmetic and mechanical rehab.

Couple questions -- any idea on date? From internet detectiving, I'm getting somewhere from 1915-1930. Also, how do I take it all the way apart? Do I just keep unscrewing until it comes apart, or is there something else I need to do?

AKO, welcome to the vise thread.

You might be right about the dates. Closer to 1900, they may have had some patent dates, I have seen 1910 dates. This model changed to the "R" version, somewhere in the mid to late 1930's and before that change, the Reeds had a 4 hole base to mount it, so again, your thought on the dates sounds about right.

For the handle, at first the slack in the ball might look like a lot of hard use. I am wondering if more likely it is not the original handle but a replacement that is not quite the same diameter as the original. I don't have a 106, maybe someone on this thread that has one could let you know the diameter, which would answer that question.

Overall looks to be in great shape and should be a super vise for years to come.
