Guys

What is the difference between Snap-on's "LDH" and "GLDH" series sockets (besides the "G" smartazz!)?

I haven't held a "GLDH" in my hand yet, so I've been wondering ......

I'm looking to fill out my set of 3/4 drives, and these seem to keep cropping up

Thanks for your help!

mrshaun is exactly correct. And just for your info, the 3/4" impacts will start with an IM for inches shallows and then IMM for inches deeps. Metric impacts will be SIM for shallows and SIMM for deeps.

Guys

What is the difference between Snap-on's "LDH" and "GLDH" series sockets (besides the "G" smartazz!)?

I had one of those that I broke some years back. The Snap-on dealer told me that the G was for Govt. (military) contract and that the standard warranty did not apply. They were originally warranted for something like one year to the Govt. ONLY.

I've got a 1/4 drive midget ratchet around here that is a "G" model and got the same story from a totally different dealer ten years later. I bought a kit and installed it myself.

Any Snap-on dealers reading this? I'd like clarification myself.

Your dealer was either an idiot or he was trying to get out of warranty service. Page 98 of the 1995 catalog is the proof. :pimpflash

Can you post that page?

I just got off of the phone with Snap-on customer service where I made an inquiry as to the warranty status of two items.

The first was a GLDH302 3/4" drive 15/16" twelve point industrial finish socket.

The second was a Midget GM-70M 1/4" drive ratchet.

The guy put me on hold for a while and then told me that neither were warrantied items.

And, that "G" pretty much means a Govt. contracted tool with a specific warranty period specified in the contract to the purchasing party.

You can call them yourself at 877-762-7664. I'd appreciate you letting us know what they told you.

After being told "no" by two different dealers and by customer service, if I did buy one, It would have to be real cheap since I wouldn't expect it to ever be warranteed if I broke it.

they will tell you that because they are discontinued. you must take them to a dealer
When I punch that item into my computer it says lifetime
it will be added to my 99 section if warrantied. (that means full lifetime warranty)
Ask chad. he will tell you the same.
the ratchet would require a repair kit.... if that doesnt fix it you get a new one... no questions asked
I am talking right now to customer service. lifetime is what she said. You must have gotten one of the new ones that doesnt know much about the tools yet....
trust me both are lifetime warranty. no doubt 100%

if you ever find tools tht have a V in the part number like the 1/2 chrome universal S8 but it says sv8 do not buy it unless you know a snap on industrial or government rep...
if i send them back for warranty they send them right back to me. NO WARRANTY

so I am sorry you are having problems with your socket, suggested replacement if it ever breaks is the ldh302 same just different finish...
if you need any more info let me know

I tried to take a pic with my cell phone but you cannot read it. if you have adealer ask him to hit the warranty policy button after he hits F3 and types in gldh302
you will see what I am talking about. if he declines to do that have him email me
[email protected] and I will help him HELP you.

The person on the phone said they were not warranty items because they are no longer in production. Most of those customer service people will only repeat to you what the computer is telling them. The computer doesn't know about discontinued out of production tools and the customer service people don't either. Your GLDH302 socket needs to be replaced by an LDH302. And that vintage ratchet needs to be replaced by it's successor too.

the ratchet can be fixed. I think it is rkr930a and actually increases the number of teeth in the head.... I like the older 1/4 ratchets. they just feel good when you use them.......
