Tried using the PCA today and saw one of the employees staring me down. Then he walked away and I heard him yelling at another employee for backup to confront the non-employee on the computer. I bolted.

It's not a crime to use the computer as long as you use the "public" section (which the price check is)... Tell them you couldn't get your phone to connect to the wifi network and couldn't get the website to load and wanted to look up the price of an item...

Why? They are public computers. Don't feel nervous or intimidated. I've been using an appliance area comp and an employee came to use it. I didn't even have a chance to say anything or get off it and they went to another computer. They didn't care I was using it, 95% don't. I usually get off the comp if an employee needs to use it though, just to be nice. I'll go look around and come back later.

Hello All

Just want to thank everyone who contributes and I hope to be more active as I just joined last month. I came across the site when looking for Homedepot information on a clearance product. I am a self confessed tool addict, don't go much for the big ticket items as I'm only a DIY homeowner and pretty much have what I need right now. But I will tell you...every Christmas there are 11 male relatives who I put together, what now everyone calls... their "Man Bag". Small tools I've purchased throughout the year from HD, Lowes, Sears, HF. Try to spend around $10 on each. I'll tell you, with a little work and foresight, you can put together a nice gift for $10 finding clearance items. Generally multi screwdrivers, Flashlights, free **** from HF to throw in a drawer, craftsman bags....whatever.

Just want to thank everyone. My Local HD seems to be a few weeks behind setting these prices though.
Welcome.

I like the phrase tool bag over man bag though

I can see Rachel Maddow with a man bag.

I was just kidding with the "I bolted" bit. I did leave before they came to confront me, but only because I didn't want a couple blowhard HD employees to argue with. The employees at my store treat the computers as if they have access to Hillary's deleted emails and must be protected at all costs.

Ok.

Next time, close it up a little before they get there and when you walk by them, say 'I love playing Miss Pac Man on that thing, such a great game'. They'll probably spend hours trying to figure out how to play it. lol

The tap requires a tap to activate it for a request, play music, etc. amazon echo and google home, those 2 are always listening. Tap's have a charging base and can be used wireless, echo and home must be plugged in at all times.

I like the on the go ability the tap has vs always needing to be plugged in like the echo and home ones.

Tell it to play waylon jennings and it does. Things are neat and a steal at $33. I wouldn't pay the $130-$180 the taps, echo and home usually are.

You can also configue the taps to work like the echos without having to push the button now with the new software update they have.

I got 2 more taps tonight after a long battle with a customer service rep about looking behind the "curtain" at the counter. He didnt do a store inventory search, just pulled up the web page and said its not available in store.

I told him i called earlier and they said they had 3 (i actually just looked it up in the PCA). He finally went behind the curtain thing and looked around for a few minutes. Came out and said he couldnt find any. He called a couple employees and asked them about them and in the end said they didnt have any, sorry.

As i was walking away he yelled at me that he found one. I asked if he found all 3 and he said yeah. I asked for one more and saw him go back and grab it right in front in the damn open! I swear these guys are making it very hard to get these clearanced taps. I had problems getting the first one i got. :twak:

Can anyone else confirm the clearance pricing at their store(s) on the Weber 22" grills?

Went to another store that showed 2 taps in stock but couldn't locate them even with help. The guy offered to call another store that showed they had them and he pulled them up on his handheld. The store I checked last night showed 4 in stock. Yesterday they showed 5 so I thought maybe someone found them and bought one. I said go ahead and call since I figured it was a lost cause there. He talked to someone, gave me the phone and I gave her my number. She said she'd call if they had any and in about 30 minutes (much to my surprise), I received a phone call from her saying they found 2 and they were holding them for me. I went straight to the store and my 2 were there. Talking to the manager she mentioned she had gotten one but while I was using the computer by customer service she went back to see if hers was still there and it was gone. After buying mine there were still 3 in inventory so I figured the employees were nice enough to hold 2 for me and took the other 3 for themselves. I now have one for the house and one for the farm thinking life was good but when I got home my wife asked if I got one for her mom. My SIL and I headed to another store that showed 2 and after a few circles, the lady at customer service called someone to check in the back. They came up with one which my son-in-law bought to replace his dot. The dot will go to my mother-in-law so everyone is happy.

As a note of interest, this store kept these devices on an end cap in the very back of the store in the back of the lights/fans department but had the actual devices stored "in the back" out of customer site. Fortunately I talked with a knowledgeable customer service person who knew that the slow moving stuff was kept in the back while popular stuff was kept "behind the curtain".

With a new automatic firmware update, the tap can be voice activated like the echo. It took a couple hours for mine to update but it's working fine now.

Ive been to 4 stores in the STL area that all had the green and copper grills marked down. Bought a copper as I posted earlier.

They show not sold in stores on home depots website...

Remember local laws vary widely, it's probably not legal in many places. Per prior discussion, they are provided for store employee use and are not intended for use by the public. Please be careful to avoid finding out the hard way that local laws vary.

I still suspect the computers are a regional thing - around here, all the computers are behind desks and counters, shoppers could not access them without going into "controlled" spaces.

I have one store manager tell me I can only look at depot.com. So if I want to mess with them I look at toolboxes for 30 min. One area store I can spend all the time I want on it.

After a year and a half of casually looking, I finally found my first penny deal. Made it all the way to self checkout, and just as I was putting my CC into machine, a clerk came and physically removed the item from the bagging scale, and called another clerk who took it and brought back a DIFFERENT but similar item that was not discontinued and asked mento ring that up instead. I said that isn't the item I already rang up. They said they can't sell me the item I rang up.

I wanted to say something about retail law that prices must be honored as rung, but I don't really know the law, and only have some vague and foggy idea that some kind of law like that exists. So without true knowledge, I gave up and left empty handed. Still have yet to score one, but at least I finally found one. HD should appreciate all the extra business they have received from me while looking, instead of spending those dollars at Lowes.

Don't use a CC, takes too long.

Don't tease us ;) What was the item you almost bagged for a penny?

I'd suggest not taking it too hard. I'm similar to you - I don't shop specifically for penny deals. I've found a few now (just in the last month), but not because I'm going out of my way to look. I'd rather buy at .02 clearance because it is more likely I'll be able to actually find it and then pay for it (and leave with it). I wouldn't bother arguing with these guys when they deprive you of a penny deal - just go on to the next deal and stay happy.

PS: thanks to the post that yesterday posted the AAA battery deal. I picked up a couple packs last night! should last me 10 years. And there is still a full box waiting to hit a penny and for me to try my luck with ;)

I always keep spare change in my pocket in case I find a penny deal. But usually I'm buying other stuff too...

Ring up your other items first, do the penny last. Usually the clerk will just glance at their screen at first to make sure you are doing what you should, they don't watch the whole transaction.

Or you just find a clueless clerk like I had that helped me ring up all the penny chemicals I bought earlier this week...

I found a couple of the Ryobi flashlights, went to self checkout and got a message on the screen to wait for assistance. I walked away and went to a manned register (with other items) and she scanned them and put them in the bag without question.

I missed a deal on Leatherman Skeletool's. I was actually looking for the Sidekick and found the Skeletool. It was clearance priced from $29.95 to $14.95. Didn't seem like much of a deal, but since they couldn't find any of the sidekicks, they told me I could have the Skeletool for half off, I bought it. I got home and realized how much I liked it (and that the original price was $59) and I went back today but they were all gone, they were marked down to $7.**. Model # 830846

Home Depot had their Makita 5/8" Hammer Drill model HP1640 on clearance for $47 plus the 11% off Menards match. So nearly half price.

Dont think they are clueless on penny chemicals. I got loads of chlorine through 3 different cashiers. They cant just toss chemicals in the compactor, so they usually let you have them. Theyve let me walk out with 7 gallons of clr remover before.

Talked to a guy at the local store, he said they generally will help get penny items out the door so as to not pay Hazmat. They had a deal going a year or two ago where you got "free chemicals" with a fertilizer purchase, until the District did a walk and they got yelled at.
