Hey Gang,

There are a few different sellers selling these pumps on e-bay, new in the box.
The seller I bought mine from was offering them at $170 plus $65 shipping, so I figured it was a name brand pump and I'll use it to make a small portable as I have a spare tank and motor.
I received the pump, opened the box, everything was there except ANY paperwork on the pump. I first checked for manuals on the FS- Curtis website...nothing. I then started googling the model number and was surprised to find nothing.
I send an e-mail to FS-Curtis and received a nice quick reply stating that the company had sold the complete lot of those particular pumps for scrap 5 years ago and did not support nor had any information avaliable for them.
I replied, thanking them for responding so quickly but included that I thought it strange that they didn't keep at least a digital copy of the owner's / operator's manual.
She replied that she received this note from the factory today..."IF ANYONE CALLS REGARDING THESE PRODUCTS, PLEASE LET THEM KNOW THESE PUMPS ARE 100% DEFECTIVE AND THEY WERE SCRAPPED AND THEY SHOULD CONTACT:" and included two names and phone numbers of the guys that took the pumps as scrap.

I sent the e-bay seller this information as I don't know if they were the scrap dealer or if they purchased them from the scrap dealer. I wait to see what they reply tomorrow.

Personally, I can't believe that Curtis didn't break them up before releasing them...not too wise. Glad I paid via Paypal.

UPDATE: I did some research and found the names supplied to me by Curtis of the 'scrappers' that took the lot, do in fact own and run a 'recycling' business, but they are NOT the e-bay sellers that I purchased the pump from. I can only assume at this point that the sellers of these pumps on e-bay are unaware of the issue. I'll update when I hear back from the seller I purchased through.

3/22 UPDATE: I just received a nice note from the seller apologising for the inconvenience, and refunded my purchase. I replied with a "Thank you" and hoped they reach a good resolution with the party that they purchased them through.
They also removed the remainder of THEIR pumps from e-bay, although other sellers are still offering them.

Were they sold as "new" or something else?
Any verbiage in the sale listing that kept things honest?
I would guess the eBay seller knew "nuffin" and the original purchaser got out from under them. Keep us tuned in,

Ebay is a gray market, you knew it wasn't a Curtis dealer and you could of acquired that information before purchasing so im 50/50 on any blame here. If it works it works. Looks like they've sold a number of them and its all positive feedback so they obviously aren't broken out of the box. Curtis wrote them off for one reason or another (guessing prototype or excess stock of a format they didn't want) so of course they're going to call them "defective". What else are they going to say? I'd run it and let Curtis worry about the distribution.

I'd agree if there were no knowledge on the seller's part. But if they were the ones who bought them as "scrap", I'd say it's pretty damn fawked up to sell them as "new" and make no mention of the fact you most likely signed an agreement to destroy them. Of course, if they bought them off someone, who bought them off someone... can't really fault them for not knowing.

I definitely agree the company was dumb to scrap out a whole lot of "defective" merchandise and not disable it somehow... pay a guy to blow torch holes in the jugs or something, so no one can sell your "****" as new product.

I would agree with skin If the pump works fine don't worry about it as I assume what you paid is a good deal. I also have a sneaking suspicion he is correct about the defectiveness considering there is no info out there at all on these pumps.

Ebay seller is "ssshapirometal" of St. Louis. the word "metal" throws a red flag for me. A quick search shows it to be a very large scrap metal dealer with facilities in several states.

As someone already asked, was it sold as a operating compressor, as parts or scrap metal? If you are stuck with it use it until something breaks.

I retired from a job in R&D for a consumer products company. We made test runs for design changes and process changes and made tons of good product everyday. Ours went into a rollback style secured dumpster. When it was full corporate security followed the truck to the landfill and witnessed the destruction/burial of the product. In our case it was mostly for preventing our competitors from obtaining information but also to keep product from being sold to the public, not to mention the liability issues involved. My guess is that the scrap dealer signed a contract that the product would not be resold.

Although they are one of the sellers of this pump on e-bay, they are NOT the scrapper that purchased the lot originally from Curtis.

They are not a scrap metal dealer. They are a steel supplier,I have bought some steel from there.
