Hey all,

As a gunsmith, a 4oz ball peen or cross peen is my meat & potato's hammer that just gets used all day long. I've been using a ball peen, but a cross peen? is desperately needed.

But I want an absolute top quality US made hammer...anyone have any recommendations?

Kind of a uncommon hammer. Not sure I know of a place to get a brand new one.

Have a blacksmith custom make you one to suit your needs. Faram Forge in Seattle does the finest hammers I know of off hand. You did say absolute top quality...

maybe also google engineer's hammer. 100g from habero, peddinghaus or relabels via gedore, stahlwille, hazet maybe a facom they all sell that style. in the usa the ball peen is more popular. Pic below-these are habero's.

If you only need 4oz and working on guns, I'm guessing you're not swinging it all that hard. Precision is probably more important than brawn here. With that said, super high quality...is it really that important?

Check Brownells, and Midway. I think I got mine from Midway. The cool thing about hammers is that even a poor hammer is going to do the job. The one I have is OK, and works great!
