I wouldn't touch up anything. Go grab yourself a 9 dollar bottle of Meguiar's Ultimate polishing compound and bring the old paint back to life. You'll thank me when you're done.

Great Find! What is the plan for that guy?

It's in my bedroom as a home for a few of my nicer measuring tools. But mostly all of my smaller man toys, you know... Knifes, Flashlights, Headphones , MP3/DAC. All the things my wife has been saying needs a home. [emoji106]

Riley: did you NEED another box? probably not, but you have a good eye and nice finds.
LOL.....That's Funny!

No makers name, or any info whatsoever. I was hoping for a story on the bottom of a drawer or something but no luck. I'm 95% sure it was homebuilt there are enough odd little bits that I ran into that make me believe it is not a production piece. It is also plywood and not hardwood but the wear and look of the box make up for the lack of hardwood.OH MY God, $25.00 For that?
Any name on it, or do you think someone made it at home?
Yeah, probably is then.No makers name, or any info whatsoever. I was hoping for a story on the bottom of a drawer or something but no luck. DRIVESITFAR: The original drawer lining was a wallpaper like material I just left it there and used some 3M Spray 90 to adhere the 1 yd. of felt that I spent $3.00 on at Joann Fabrics ,a lot of the time the have coupons online for 50% off 1 cut of fabric. Which was perfect for this project.

Don't see why you wouldn't .Thank you, I hope to get many more years of use out of it!
I love those carpenter boxes. I have a couple myself!A friend gave me this Kennedy Carpenter's Box the other day. It's used but in good shape. The original Masonite panel is still intact, but the saw holder is MIA. The square knockouts are still intact.

BRETT: thanks for the 411 on how you spiffed up that homemade wood machinist's toolbox. you have skills and are thrifty too which is a good combo to have more money to buy more tools and stuff. WELL DONE!!
Riley: find any more toolboxes you don't NEED cause i'm pretty sure you are looking??
AE: is it safe to say that maybe you like HERITAGE Craftsman toolboxes and tools in general? i'm guessing those V wrenches were yours already or did you find them in the toolbox?
This is a S-K color match receipt that I was sent that was matched from a vintage S-K box. It is not wrinkle finish, however.

Amazing deal on that 10d Craftsman top box.Copied from my separate post trying to find more info on the Mac set.
Tool storage issues solved. Excuse my mess, we moved cross country and I'm still working on getting my shop setup again which is actually why I got more cabinets.
Yesterday I acquired 3 Craftsman and 2 Mac toolchests. I did not plan on the Macs. They were a gift. I went from 2 boxes to 7, today. I also have a smaller Waterloo top/bottom. So I guess nine.
I now have the period correct gray/red bottom cabinet I've always wanted to go with the smaller top that's been in the family since new, a big top for my newer roller cab, a BIG 10 drawer top box that came PACKED full of very good vintage American tools, and this Mac set that is OLD. The Mac set was left behind in the shop his dad purchased in '93.
I spent $140 on the big top and my friend who gave me the Mac set took $125 off of what he owes me for a car he's buying from me to buy the new big top / old (silver) bottom. So $140 out of my pocket. I think the Mac may gets restored, I've never seen one like it.
Much cleaning is needed. I love the old silver and red Craftsman boxes.

I'm trying to put a date on this Mac set. Best I can tell from the handles is early 50's. Does anyone have additional info on them?

I haven't been able to find a tool box like the one above. Anybody have pictures of an original one? Are they normal craftsman red? Or red and grey? Or?
