I'm not entirely sure where it's going to fit into my shop but I ordered one. Thanks!

edit: searching "Husky 36 in" I didn't have any luck finding a matching bottom. Looks like it's maybe been cleared out based upon the reviews of this top? (ie some reviewers mentioned getting the bottom at 20 or 30% off)

there's already a HD clearance thread

While I do agree with that, this item is <strike>clearanced</strike> discounted on their website. Making it available to many more than what some of the elusive clearance deals in store would be.

That's how the 60" Milwaukee work table got its own thread, granted it wasn't really on clearance either.

The website isn't claiming this is "clearance" although I'm sure it is. It's just stating a percentage off until 4/3. Honestly I can't see these remaining in stock for another 48 hours now that it's been posted, much less until April 3rd

That said, I don't care what thread it shows up in.

My two showed up today. Pretty much exactly what I expected. No drawer liners which is kind of a bummer (that's probably specified on the website, I didn't look). The drawer action is decent, and it's got that typical Husky yank-it-away and slam-shut closing action, but I can live with that.

Honestly I'm surprised this thread didn't gain more traction, seems like a lot of box for around $100. Maybe everyone is still full from gorging on $50 Milwaukee 46" uppers......

Thus far I've only opened one that had some minor damage to the packaging but the product was undamaged. These appear to also suffer from the famous Husky problem of the packaging can look good but the product can be damaged (according to reviews), which is why I mention it.

I was mistaken! The bottom of this one is tweaked! The drawer opens but it's a little sticky. I might try to bang it out or I might return it.

Ok I actually just elevated it & applied a little pressure in the right spot and all is well. It does still have a slight cosmetic bump but the drawer works perfectly again

My 4 year old has been asking for a "blue" toolbox (he's 4, I let him get away with it, at least he wants a toolbox) Maybe I can convince my wife that this is the answer.

This blue upper is the same depth but at least gets 16" drawers as it should. Yay

(I apologize for 1 pic per post on my phone). Ok -- and I apologize for upside down pics!

The fit & finish on these is exactly what you'd expect for China. My second one seems to have no significant damage but the top lid is noticeably proud on one side. Trust me, it's more noticeable in person.

I'm not complaining, just observing. I'll always have the top open so I don't care, and it still closes fine so I wouldn't care anyway. It just reflects low(er) QC - and given the price point and COO this should be expected

What was the original price on these?

As it is now that reflects $139.00 but I have a hard time believing that was original retail when they were first released - for a 36" upper w ball bearing slides I'd expect $199-$249

Too bad the blue toolbox has . . . . . BLACK . . . drawers . . . WTF ??

That's deal breaker for me, and surely why these are getting discounted.

You're right! The black drawers don't work as well and don't hold tools.

My entire setup is going to implode 'cause I'm putting it on a black 34" lower.

Anyway to that end I had to do a wood spacer to get above the lips on my 34" lower and then I ran four 1/4" bolts so the top can't shift.

This holds all my mill tooling at my Bridgeport but now I fear my work will suffer (or worse - grind to a halt) 'cause I'm grabbing tooling from a box w mismatched colors. Damn.....

^ ^ ^ Ha, Ha . . . you're right, those damn black drawers won't affect functionality !! ;)

Good to see you've got use for yours.

I'm betting there will be some upcoming deals on Craftsman toolboxes with the implosion of Sears. There might even be some red ones with black drawers !! :pimpflash

It gets worse....for some of the drawers I used an old green yoga mat the wife gave me!

I feel like they'd be advertising them as such if that was the case.

For $250 you could get 44".

$199:

Different design but so what? IMO the "new style" boxes w deep top lids are less expensive to produce: more drawers = more material, more brakes, and more moving parts. Although perhaps this one is a wash w more but narrower drawers.

edit: also IME when first introduced Husky uses the "Special Edition" moniker to charge MORE, not less, for a box. But the Special Editions never stick around long-term and are eventually discontinued (and thus discounted in the process)

Also no way you can convince me a 36" tool cart w TWO drawers would retail for $169 while this box would have been $139 all along:
http://m.homedepot.com/p/Husky-36-i...t-with-Wood-Top-Black-HOUC3603B1QWK/204856169

Sure it's got a wood top and casters but both of those items cost very little in the quantities HD buys from their Chinese suppliers. The cart's got WAY less sheetmetal, 50# slides and is ~30 lbs lighter

Here's the finished overall. I know some members are throwing the back of their hand to their forehead as they faint, but it's inexpensive and effective - and as a "Chrome don't get ya home" kinda guy, those are two of my favorite words!
