First, I do keep an eye on my kids. And the yard where they typically play is fenced in addition to the entire property being fenced and cross fenced. I am trying to be a little proactive so that nothing devastating ever does happen. I also didn't say that any of my animals have been hit. Again, I am just trying to be proactive and slow people down to a reasonable speed for the area. The speeds that I am talking about are considered reckless driving and would end up in criminal court and not just with a monetary fine.
Lastly, do you really think that speed limits are based off of the damage/carnage that is possible if something/someone is struck? Is that why schools have speed limits of only 20mph? I am pretty sure that even a 20mph strike would easily kill a toddler. I believe it has more to do with being able to react to an issue and the time it would take to stop or slow down to avoid the obstacle.
You can make all the assumptions that you want about what people who complain do outside of their own "hood" but that is all they are, assumptions. I haven't had a ticket in 20+ years and I am only 40. And it's not just because I haven't been caught. When I was a teenager I drove like an idiot and almost caused some serious damage. I could have easily ended up in jail. I, also, did hit a deer, while on a motorcycle, when I was speeding on a back country road. I didn't have a helmet on and was lucky to only end up with a concussion and some road rash. It wasn't the deers fault, it was his domain. It was mine for riding so fast that I couldn't slow down in time to miss him. So I took my speeding habits to the racetrack and quit endangering the general public.
Forgive me for trying to come up with a way to protect my kids, and the neighborhood, from any more incidents. Do you actually have any constructive ideas about the issue?
