Those decal look amazing.

I scanned the decal off mine, its a bit rough but I got it pretty flat and taped up the tears from behind.

The original decal is 3.75 inches wide by 6 inches tall.

The decal got a lot worse after I peeled it off as the clear laminated surface sort of crackled as it was bent backwards.

I actually have another one of these grinders, one is gray, the other is black but both have the same p/n and decal. The gray grinder lost its decal almost right away, it fell apart in pieces within the first year I had it. The Goal here is to have one set up for polishing metal, the other as a grinder.

Here's two scans of it, one in full page the other cropped down to size.

I posted it here too since this page seems to auto downsize uploads.

Size changes when I import. Pm me and I'll give you an email address to send source file to.

Here is one I completed today:

Original scan
45d2d603b20f4199fd3ca8f171fd691d.jpg

Completed labels
4bc3c28454f2438c2aafa0ffe84884b3.jpg

3 for the price of 1!

I did this from a PM from vertguy earlier this week. While working on this I found that Century Gothic is a near perfect match for the font. The only noticeable difference is that Century Gothic has angled ends of the "c" while the original had vertical ends.

I'll put them in the mail in the morning. This is high performance cast vinyl and it can be tricky to install. If you get wrinkles or bubbles on the first attempt then try again with a light spray of water (with a drop of transparent dish soap added per 8oz). This will prevent the adhesive from sticking right away. You will then be able to put it down and lift up a few times to get the position correct then use a squeegee to push out any bubbles and wrinkles. If you don't have one then the edge of a credit card should work. You can also spray the surface before using the squeegee to minimize any scratches.

Sweet!!! Looking forward to adding this finishing touch to my block.

Thanks again

Hi Matt,

here's my label thanks;

e28defed88b1d14d717ebc2bc6b309bf.jpg

Just sent the label to you today. You're not too far away so you'll get it Saturday or Monday.

Here is final product.

3e5967d1e820daf71390db8c50521927.jpg

I can't take credit (or blame) for the design. In this case you provided me a .ai file which is what I used to print. Please save and scan (or mail me) the original so I can make a more accurate reproduction. The one I made looks good but the font looks too heavy compared to the original and I suspect that some text is not accurately positioned.

I laminated it as well for durability plus that will make it easier to apply (it will be a bit thicker and less stretchy). For the other ones I sent out unlaminated - you can get the label laminated at staples for a $1 or $2 then hand trim the lamination to the sticker before applying. This will make it much easier to apply bubble and wrinkle free. In the future I'll try to laminate all the labels I make.

Happy to do it. I need a scan of the original label at 300-600dpi. Or you can mail it to me to scan here. You can pm me for my email address to email the scan.

I removed my old label you made for me today Matt and one other but I noticed on the first one I removed, it actually had a clear "cover" on it and I noticed it because it was not perfectly centered over the old label, wonder if that was something new craftsman did to protect their labels back then?
Before I started to pull this corner up it was a perfect replica of the decal so I dont think any other person put this on other than sears...

I scanned the old one to a pdf file if you still want it for your reference library? I scanned second one too but the only thing left on the label itself is the SN, and the word craftsman, never saw one that bad before?

Someone must have attempted to remove the label in the past without any heat, and the clear lamination peeled off. They put it back on a bit offset. I've had a few that peeled off this way. Please do a 600dpi color scan and email me the file (send both so I can see the size, color and position of the SN - ideally with the two labels re-attached so its a single scan)

That's a very kind offer and beautiful work! I have one I would love to send you once I am at my computer. I already have the artwork done and I would like to try mounting a vinyl label on a piece of aluminum.

I have a full res one on my PC, but here is a low res version of my repro.

Unfortunately, I no longer have my original label, as I sent it to a user on GJ who said he was going to help me with a label, then I never heard from him again, and he stopped posting and checking PMs here shortly thereafter.

I have this label ready to print but please let me know the dimensions of the label (the scan came in too large)

mattblast,

I don't know how I missed this thread but what timing to find it! I have just repainted a model 39719340 with a nasty looking label. What would it take to print the label you created for cajunfirehawk but with serial no. 717190162? I can scan and send you my label but the one you already created looks like a match. I'll gladly pay for your time.

Here they are - I printed two of them and laminated them as well. They will go onto the mail tomorrow.

Here's a trick you can use to apply the label. It's called the "Hinge Method" (another way is "Wet Application" for those that care)

1. Make sure surface is clean and has no adhesive remover residue or ammonia on it. If so rinse with water. (Don't clean with windex as it will eat the adhesive)

2. Place label in position with backing still on it and place a piece of masking tape at one edge to keep it in position.

3690252b4d8ffe34591abd9bb0bca594.jpg

3. Flip label over and remove backing to expose adhesive.

35ae3ded0747db0dd3ec3a36f452ce37.jpg

4. Slowly flip it back so adhesive is towards the surface to attach to. As you press material down with a squeegee (or credit card if you don't have one). Work the squeegee bit by bit to press adhesive onto the material. You need to hold up one end of the label as you squeegee the other and keep working down until it's done. Doing it all at one will introduce bubbles or wrinkles.

5. Peel off tape and label is now perfectly positioned.

Thanks for the label scans. Here is what you provided:

This was a big help in tuning the layout. Turns out the first label I sent you was off a bit and even missing a period and a few commas. Plus the font wasn't quite right. It should be perfect now.

Here are the replacements. The SN is even positioned off center like yours were. I'll send them out in the morning. See post above for install directions.

These are all laminated to provide better solvent resistance and make them easier to apply.

Thank you, like that! funny thing about amazons hammertone pricing: most cans are like in the $5-6 range, a few $10 and one or two colors like $11-12 can, one is like $15 all the exact same brand. :headscrat
You might have to order it from Lowe's, but Google says it's <$11.00.
Rust-Oleum%207212830.jpg

HOS is cheap/can, but you have to buy 6 cans. Packaging: 6 Per Package!

I sent you a PM twice, but I'm not sure if it went through, after I hit send it doesn't appear in my sent folder for some reason.

You might wait until Matt confirms but some are laminated, seems the later produced (last 2 weeks?) ones are...I would PM him and ask, IMHO

I received stickers from Matt yesterday and I want everyone to know how well done these are especially now that they are laminated and that these are a commercial grade sticker he is making on HIS own nickel for us and how awesome that is.

Thank YOU again Matt!

Wow, this looks great. Removing the old label makes it possible to sand and paint the center band. And the new paint job and label make it look new.

Where do you guys all get the grinding discs? The stuff at Harbor Freight is warped junk. Where are good sources online to order 6 inch or 8 inch diameter wide grinding discs?

Finally installed mine. Not real happy with the lamination job as all 3 came out about the same with several air bubbles. But then again, this is a tool and the label was the finishing touch.

A huge thanks to Matt

Looks great. Lamination can be a pain which is why I wasn't laminating the labels originally. Very easy to get bubbles or wrinkles and have to redo it. If you're not satisfied with the results just send me a pm and I'll send you a replacement that is laminated (bubble free!).

That is a very generous offer.:thumbup:

Vertguy - this is not an ideal suggestion, but sometimes piercing the bubble will let the air out and the bubble can be compressed. Maybe a pin or sharp X-ACTO Knife .
