ENDS SUNDAY - Ryobi 1600 psi electric pressure washer (small and portable) $80 at HD

I think it's part of HD's spring event.. gets great reviews, I'm gonna get one myself since I'm reluctant to drag my big one out for small things, and this is almost a handheld unit..

This is a great pressure washer to use with one of those foam cannons to wash your car with, another thing I'll probably get...

Here's their bigger gas unit that's on sale, $90 off - now $299

You already need to drag a hose out to wash a car. Just put a nozzle on it and go. Why the need to drag out and maintain one more piece of equipment? I've used a power washer to wash a car before but I don't see the benefits.

I have one and like it very much. I've used it for jobs that are probably too big for it, but it doesn't seem to mind. Great for washing the siding on the house, porches, concrete, wood decks.

Just picked up one today as a backup for my Karcher K5.740 as that one has developed an internal leak. Ordered some new seals for it, but if it doesn't fix it, I'll use it until it stops working and switch to the Ryobi.

So much easier washing a car with a pressure washer and foam cannon.

1- this pressure washer is so small you can carry it with one hand..

2 - it's a lot easier to get brake dust, bugs, bird droppings off with a small pressure washer instead of scrubbing it off.

3 - the unit I posted uses the quick coupler nozzles like the bigger gas units, instead of just one adjustable fan tip. Makes adding accessories much easier.

4 - I didn't say I wanted it JUST for washing a car. Electric has a lot of advantages over gas in some respects.

5- cause you can't do this with just a hose -

Thanks for the heads up, just ordered one. Been wanting one for home use.

We have a gas and electric at my work, and I usually go for the electric because the gas unit is so good at injecting water where it is not wanted. This little Ryobi is rated as higher than the electric one at work, so it should work fine for everything I'll use it for.

Well, let's see. No siding to wash, porches not really, concrete, I have some but never needs washing, no wood deck.

Yep, I think I need one of these.

I have a very similar unit. It sure makes light work of cleaning the 40' x 60' pool cover every spring when it comes off the pool.

Just as an idea, I unscrewed the "handle bars" on mine, and turned it around, so the high pressure outlet and the gun were on the same side. Seems to make more sense, and allows me to get at the soap dispenser easier.

Thanks KC, this is definitely worth the $80. Will be nice not having to get the big one out for small jobs. f452aa335b50673e09c8737fbcb3cfd6.jpg

Great reviews. How much do they usually charge for this thing? Do they sell it all the time, or just for special events?

I bought a 3100psi gas unit last spring. A little electric would sure make cleaning the cars and other light chores a lot easier and more likely to happen...

Regular price is $119. This is on sale as part of their "Spring Black Friday" sale. Prices are good until 4/9.

Going thru that whole search right now. Leaning towards the Green Earth G-Clean Foam Blaster for a cheap intro to make sure I am going to use it. Unless someone has used both it and the MTM version, and thinks the extra quality would be worth it.

Some detailers claim that those foam cannons don't do much. They look like fun though. I was curious so I did some searching around.

Best info I've found so far is a guy on youtube that has done like 30 tests of different foam solutions to see what effect they have. He does an A/B comparison on pretty dirty cars. He often finds very little or no improvement when using the foam. The best results he gets only provide perhaps a 50% improvement over using just water from the pressure washer.

See for yourself.

It looks like fun but maybe a waste of time and money compared to just using the pressure washer...but let me know if you think I'm missing something here.

I agree with you - for the most part. There are similar findings from a youtube channel called "forensic detailing channel" on the effectiveness of snow foams. He also does side by side with just pressure washing and a number of snow foams. No real improvement really. Now that said, there are pro detailers that do use foam cannons to help spread product that will chemically remove contaminants form the surface when that step is really important in their detailing process (I'm thinking of White Details specifically here). Is it completely necessary for 95% of home users? no. is it "fun" to blast your car with white foamy stuff? well, sure. to the same people that think the sound of blow off valves and intake sucky wooshy noises is more important than actual performance increase.....

I think the big difference you see with the actual thick foam has to do with how strong the pressure washer is.. that said, me - personally - would have no reservations with foaming the car down and using a wash mitt on it like a normal person..

I still haven not ordered one of these washers. I want to, but I keep buying more parts for my truck that I wanna fix, and there's a voice in my head saying "you have a $700 pressure washer *******".. I had no idea how expensive those name brand foam cannons were either.. chemical brothers wants like $80 or $90 for theirs.. no way I'd spend that on those things...

I'm more interested in doing stuff for my truck right now, so this might wait.. I dunno.

I really want one of the foam cannons just to see people with the "holy ****" face when they drive by as I'm washing the car. That would look pretty sick foaming down the house too.. lol

I've had this pressure washer for about 6 months now. It works great and I love the fact that it is light and portable. I just use it around the house (i.e. bricks, concrete) and on the cars when they are really dirty.

I wish I'd taken before and after pictures, but this little thing just kicked *** cleaning out the greasy mess of an engine bay in my '62 Thunderbird. I'm getting ready to put an engine in, and it's had 50+ years of oil leak buildup on the crossmember and radiator support. Some Purple Power and the Turbo nozzle knocked it all off in 30 minutes with no hand scrubbing.

Next to blast off the 6.9 diesel and the ol' lady's 4runner.

Anyone elses turbo nozzle spraying in a cone vs a small steady stream?

I saw these and thought about it but was worried it would be too small to handle the jobs I need (wash cars, wood fence, concrete, CMU blocks, siding), but looks like it might be a pretty decent buy. I didn't want to spend $300 and have another engine to store and maintain so I might just pull the trigger. Need to go back to HD and grab a few more bags of $2 mulch anyway... Thanks.

I got that on clearance at HD 2 years ago. MY brohter had previously complained about how previous setups had him putting the soap/cleaner in closer to the washer, rather than the nozzle, so the whole line got filled with cleaner. This guy attaches to the sprayer preventing that, and you don't have to keep looking at the washer to see if their is cleaner left.

Don't use it a ton, but works well. Also got a spin brush attachment, but because of the connection angle, it has very limited use.

For anyone that's married - it's electric - so the next time the wife asks you to clean the shower you can pull that thing out.. should at least make it fun.

The turbo or helicopter nozzle (depends who you're asking) should be spinning I belive, and not just a steady stream or fan of water.. you can check YouTube and compare yours. There are a few vids reviewing this washer.. just search Ryobi 1600

Here - here's a decent video of it

Another good vid for you -

Just ordered two.

One for light duty stuff around the house and car/truck washing so I don't have to drag out the big gasoline engine powered unit.

The other for a Father's Day gift for dear old Dad. He seemed to like his departed electric Karcher unit.

Free shipping to the house is a plus too.

I used it for the first time today. I did a quick wash of our walkway, my weathertech mats in my truck, and the garage door.

The walkway was moss between each brick and the washer was able to get rid of it with a little bit of repetition.

The mats came out looking great after just a minute or two of cleaning.

The verdict is still out on the garage door. I can't tell how well it did until it dries and I see it in the sun.

The machine is quiet, small, and easy to use. I don't have much to compare it to, but it does seem relatively low powered but due put out a pretty good volume of water.

I picked one of these up today. I noticed that they had a PILE of these at my store - over 20 units. I wonder if these will go clearance anytime soon? Or just back to regular price?

If you plan to use this on a "fairly regular basis" I highly suggest you buy the two year extended warranty for $12.

As mentioned, it has a 3-year warranty.

Some credit cards will extend the warranty at no cost. My Costco visa gives another 2 years of warranty, for a total of 5 years on this pressure washer.

The manufacturer's 3-year warranty may be fairly useless. It will need to go to a Ryobi service center at your cost. If you don't have one locally (I don't) then you'll need to ship it there, or drive it there - as well as pay for return shipping or pick it up yourself.

You can see where the closest Ryobi service center is here:
