What's a good place to buy an electric motor pulley? I need an 8.5 inch diameter OD , double groove pulley, with a 1.375 ID. Cheapest I've seen is about $75.....thanks

Do an online search. I found a place in, I think, Arizona that had an extensive catalog and decent prices. Can't remember the name, but it's an easy search.

That is a big pulley! You might try Amazon once you get an item no/brand to go on. Motion Industries might be able to help you but the cost is unknown without having an account with them.

Try asking these people if they can make what you need.

Call and ask them if they have anything.

Where did you find it for $75?

So this is for an air compressor with the 15 inch pump pulley. I was looking at a 7.5 hp motor at 1725 RPM. Which makes the 8 1/2 inch pulley about 970 rpm....which is right in the sweet spot for the pump (800-1200)

Could get a 7 1/2 hp 3450 rpm cheaper, and use a smaller pulley. Downside to that?

Is the pump rated for 7.5 hp at 970 rpm? I've seen to many here think that they can up the speed of a compressor without upping the HP of the motor. Just wanting to confirm that you understand the whole picture here that speed/hp/pressure are all interactive. You can't have it all.

Can you provide a link to the compressor specs?

Yes it is ... rolair k30... came with 7.5 hp motor initially, now has 5 hp... do you have any input on the 3450 RPM motor?

A 1725 motor will have the larger torque and may be better suited to pump work. It is what you find on better compressors.

On edit; it looks like your pump is rated 7.5hp at 1200 rpm so the 970 will be great unless you need max CFM and will trade that for noise and wear from running at the higher speed.

Your welcome. Good choice on a 1750 motor, and turning the pump slower. I probably would go even slower myself just for the noise factor but nothing wrong with the compromise of cfm/noise your making, still will be much quieter than at 1200 rpm.

If you have never installed a pulley with seperate hub just make sure you do it evenly and do each bolt in steps. Don't over tighten them, use the specified torque. And if you really want smooth you can put an indicator of a mag base and eliminate all wabble in the pulley by tightening the corresponding bolt to the highest reading. Can get the dead nuts if the manufacture did them point.
