Is the Advertising Metal Display company a pre-cursor to RemLine? My box has a stamp showing them as the manufacturer. RemLine is out of Chicago so it somewhat makes sense.

Horse13, I don't know the history of RemLine but based on appearances they made boxes for Cman and others.

I used to believe that too, but one or two of my power tools with crown logo's are dated as early as 12/57

I'm curious as to which ones. I know going by the catalog illustrations isn't 100% by any means, but lacking a museum with every model of every year tool...

Well I didn't have any luck they had that Kennedy 2 piece priced at $650 any the snapon $400 (top box missing a drawer and some didn't pull really bad condition). The craftsman wasn't bad but didn't want to spend 84 bucks for it. Nice find on New Britain the Remline to of course my old craftsman doesn't quite look as good yet but close to same deal somewhere between free and 25 bucks for 2 piece.

I just got lucky and good timing. The gal at the estate sale wanted to move stuff quickly. She also threw in some NB and SK hand tools. I have been having some good luck lately at garage/estate sales. Usually my lazy **** cant get up early on my weekends.

Some really nice boxes on here gents. Really dig checking out the vintage gear.

Had a Cornwell roller yesterday, or thought I did..
Guy about an hour + north of me was selling a repainted Cornwell cabinet for $20, due to a drawer hanging out on a bent slide. I texted my brother and asked him to pick it up, for me.
He called me a couple of hours later and asked if I minded if he kept it.
He's my brother, hey, no sweat dude.

But darn, that would have lookd good under this no name middle box I got the other week.

Proto "Flying Lady" top chest (sans decal) found at the Portland Automotive Swap Meet this weekend. Paid $40. The drawers are as smooth as if they were ball bearing, but I didn't see any. This thing is stout!

Picked up this small Craftsman box today for $1.00

The box measures 9-1/2" L x 5" W x 5" Tall. Not sure how old it is or what it was used for, but its in excellent condition. The paint and decal are super clean.

Unfortunately there's no key for the lock. The lock number is LB626. Can a key be made from this number? I know I can just get another lock, but it would be nice to leave the original one on and working.

Can anyone give a time frame date from the decal and handle?

Form that number and letting the locksmith match a blank, they can generally make a new key.

I would suspect its for a small power tool and is missing an inside liner.

I know waterloo made the more recent boxes (70's) but I don't think this looks like waterloo...I bet Twertsy would know P.S. I will be making more proto flying lady decals...I am currently sold out but will be getting more. They are not chrome like the box would be but would be the correct shape in case you need one.

The Snappy stays. I go nut trying to figure out who made what. It's part of the fun. My dad has a really old black Snap on chest, I'll snap a photo next time I'm there.

Thank you! Funny story about this tool box and I'll post the bottom later. It was in an abandoned small engine shop and I got permission to take out after signing a waiver. Anyways, my wife is helping me and we are walking through knee deep garbage. We get to the tool boxes and I have to tell my wife she has a huge spider on her pants, big and black. She tries to brush it off quickly with her hand and it just stays there. We got it off, she was a good sport but no longer came on these adventures.

So I've had this old Kennedy box for awhile, I use it to store loose 1/4" stuff and other smalls that don't have a home. I'm wanting to do a strip and repaint and it seems getting the old green felt removed is going to be a PITA.
Anybody got any experience removing the stuff?

I've used a wire wheel on angle grinder and it worked good.

I watched a Gerstner tool chest restoration video where they simply wetted the felt with water, which loosened up the glue. Those are wood boxes, and since yours is metal maybe just pull out one of the drawers and throw it in the sink for a while to see what happens. The worst that can happen is it won't do anything.

Water will affect most glues unless specifically made for use around/in water, so not a bad idea to start with water like Stuart suggested...

Here's a Wards machinist chest I picked up today. It's covered in a layer of greasy dirt, so the paint may clean up better.
