I was one of those "I do my own yard work" kinda guys.....

Then one day Armondo was walking by....my wife was outside....he commented in his 'very broken English' how nice our yard looked....they start talking (lots of sign language)....next thing you know...I'm paying $60/m for him to do the grunt work.

He lives close by....has a 'knack' for gardening....he and my wife get along great....she points....he does it.

It lets us do the more fun stuff.....

I know you put an "m" beside the $60, but I was wondering if you meant "a week"? I only ask because around here, it would be $60 a week and that's high school kids mowing, minor trimming, and sweeping the walks. If it is a month, send Armondo to Ohio.

Finding nothing, I was going to write it, figuring that even with some rust on my math skills that it wouldn't be too hard to do some path optimization. I did some searching for algorithms I could implement, but then decided it was going to take too long to write after reading "Approximation Algorithms for Lawn Mowing and Milling".

That is the sort of "over thinking" i was thinking about. I expected the final conclusion to be like -start in the center and spiral out.--or the conclusion is "4".

That's what I used at my old house, works great. But only effective on large rectangle/square shaped patches of grass.

Now I have a corner lot, which has many islands of grass with varying shapes, cutting with the riding takes too much time. I haven't cut the grass the same way twice and can't get a good path/pattern with the riding (not zero turn). Even with over lapping onto the islands, there's too much driving around or backing up (to avoid running the same spot too many times).

So, it was recommended to me by the local dealer to use a larger deck walk behind. Cut more grass without breaking the bank:

Until the OP can post of picture of his lot (or trusts another member and just gives them his address so they can do it for him) it will hard to tell what might be best for him.

Maybe I'm lucky but my wife loves to mow. I get home from work, lawn is cut, all I need to do is a little trimmer work.
