And just one more...

No info, other than...

2 feet long, and two man lift...

Never seen one like this...

These are quite common here, very old though, I passed on a mint 6" locally last year and it was only £50, largely because there was other tools I wanted to buy and I dont often buy vices that old.

From 1913 catalogue (also in the 1923 and 1930 catalogue). Peter Wright was one of the firms that made them.

I too have one of those ... yours is much cleaner than mine and I'm ashamed to say I have yet to clean it up even though I have had it quite a few months.

I believe someone on this forum (perhaps VA Grouseman) did come up with a name for the manufacturer but I have embarrassingly forgotten it at the moment. :(

Hi all, I am a brit enjoying your forums and varied tools.
Came here to see if my new vice was American? cannot find any info anywhere so probably nothing special apart from the round solid steel slider. a bit like the mini vices?. no markings apart from the patent No9368 and date 1905. a few here have tried to help but no luck. heres a few pictures.
oh and a not so pretty Record No 5 with a bit of paint splashed on it, soft jaw aluminium with two more screws needed. This will be my bash and grunt vice hence the quick paint job.
Brian.

Or a 15 + inch Engineer's Vise...

120 Kgs ---

265 + pounds...

Wish I had some way to get them over here...

They're already over here, they're shaper vises, not really that hard to come by, at least until you need the exact one that fits your shaper. Then like anything else, they're not around.

Apart from VS2 and the logo of a bird? over a W , I can't find anything , seems well made and possibly European ,
I only paid £5 for its curiosity value

Did a quick US patent search. US Patent 9368 was issued in 1852 for a Saw Gummer (Whatever the hell that is....)

US Design patent D9368 was issued in 1876 for a design for a center piece.

US patent reissue RE9368 was issued in 1888 for a wagon for unloading coal.

Also did a quick check of British patents, 9368 is not for a vice.

Whether or not the vise is US made, cannot say. The patents are definitely not US.

That is awesome...That's one study work bench

Can anyone ID this vise? My first reaction was a rock island due to the swivel lock shape and three digit on dynamic jaw but I couldn't find any info on a rock island 132

Interesting...I just picked up a Reed 104 1/2 this weekend but it looks completely different. Will post pics this afternoon

A 104 1/2 will have a three hole base and a rounded meatball spindle with no split nut to retain the spindle. The 104 1/2R above has four bolt holes, and a flattened spindle and a split nut to retain the spindle. There are some crossover 104 1/2R models that have a split nut and a rounded meatball spindle, but still have four bolt holes. The same is generally true of all the other sizes when compare the R series to the earlier non-R models.

A great vise! I have one on my bench as my daily user. It is heavy and smooth, and being in Canada, I like that it is Canadian made. Here is a photo of mine.

Picked up a clean 9400 HD on Friday and a super clean 9350 on Saturday. I'm positive the 9350 has the original paint, and I'm undecided on the 9400. It could be the original paint that faded, but I don't know if they painted the jaw support sides during that time period (1960s). The 9350 has a 12-3-68 date stamp, and I can't recall on the 9400HD, but in the same range.

"Solidly mounted" --- Said the owner...

"How solidly???" --- Said the Vise Stand salesman...

"It's hooked to the center of the Earth" --- Said the owner...

"Oh..." --- Said the Vise Stand salesman...

I would leave it where it is, as long as it worked...

That is awesome...

Here's a few more, I filed them under...

Thank you for taking the time to look up the us patents, very much appreciated. It will probably be an Eastern European one. As I said before if it was a big brand then they would have put their name on it. It will be my main vice as it suits my little shed space, I have a record No5 but that's a bit to big, It really is very well built! No play smooth and good clean castings.
Thanks Brian.

Hello All,

I just wanted to give to a little update as to the delay of the sale on the "Donated Charity Vise".

It is still going to happen, I guarantee it. I'm just waiting for my shoulder to finish healing and I've had a couple "life issues" sneak up on me (never good, but that's life) and it knocked me down a little and work is silly busy.

Excuses aside, this will still happen and it will be a great vise for someone.

Thank you all, just give me a little more time, please?

Thanks Gentlemen, Take care!

Sincerely,

Mike

Picked up this Wilton 800 bullet vise over Easter weekend. Heavy as hell. I plan to clean it up just not sure if I want a full restore or just a clean face lift. I paid $300 for it, I don't think I did to bad. My coworkers are like you over paid. I've seen smaller ones for almost the same price. I'm Happy with it and that"s all that matters, RIGHT?

Your coworkers are obviously not familiar with a Wilton 800.

Show them what a brand new one costs $$$:eyecrazy:

Wayfast, sounds like your coworkers are good old boys that hate to see a friend get burnt so bad but are willing to help you recoup some of your purchase (maybe as much as $250.00), just because they like you so much.---What honor, what sacrifice.

I have an 800 just like it.---I paid over $1000.00 for mine.

Mike,
Take all the time you need! Think of us all here as your cheer leaders!!! Not in the literal since as the thought of seeing a bunch of men, old, young, fat, skinny, ugly, cute, etc....in a cheer outfit makes me dang near dry heave! Ha!!

Get r done when the time is correct, until then keep kicking **** bud!

Started welding up a post vise stand today for one of my 6" vises.

The bottom place is 1/2" thick 2'x4' A36.

Why is it that big? I'm not sure yet but I thought I could add something to the back side there.
