What other uses it might have would vary depending on the size and shape of the box itself.
I once took an old one and stood it on end after welding wheels on it. Made a nice locking storage cabinet for weedeaters, rakes,spud bar, shovels, etc....
That was a really long one though, and the older gentleman I did it for had a big open concrete floored open shop with a roof over. It was a largish piece of land and he rented several trailers for a reasonable price, sort of a small trailer park but not quite.
Tools had a habit of wandering off there, so it worked out really well in that situation.
Could have used it laying down for most of the stuff still I guess, but it wasn't very handy that way and took up a lot more room.
Also could have built in some shelves, or half of it for shelves if one doesn't have that much long stuff to store.
Most boxes aren't long enough for this to work out, and still pretty much the same use I guess, storing tools.
